Applying Eternabond Tape to edge of roof

HI Folks: Following recent related topics, I am resealing all openings through the roof of the TC. Folks have suggested applying eternabond tape at the edge of the roof to ensure a long lasting seal. I have a TPO roof in good shape and other then keeping it clean and conditioned and watch for any holes I only have the edge seam to be concerned about running around the edges of the roof. Here is a picture of the edge of the roof. If I apply the eternabond tape should it start inside the gutter covering the screws holding the gutter and lap up over the edge seam onto the roof or just start above the screws in the gutter and lap up over the edge seam onto the roof. If I apply the eternabond tape I will run a bead of Dicor along its edge on the flat part of the roof as suggested in a previous posting. cheers christl

Here is a picture of the bathroom skylight dome resealed with Dicor.

That makes absolutely no sense. That's its sole job. Just because your previous owner put the tape on long after the leak had started, don't think it doesn't work. The tape will seal the leaks but won't address any damage already done.

I've used it myself on that very same edge seam the OP is asking about and found it to be unsatisfactory. There were no leaks, and I did all the proper "rain-dance" prep work beforehand, then rolled and rolled and rolled the tape to activate all those micro beads (of snake oil).

It looked perfect when I got done, and there was no indication that there was anything amiss..........until I had to peel some off to replace something on the roof (can't remember what I was working on, this was about eight years ago). Guess what I found under the tape? Water!

I peeled every bit of it off and re-caulked with Dicor self-leveling and lap sealant.

I wouldn't trust tape to seal anything but a perfectly flat surface with no curves, edges, bumps, or anything that you have to form the tape around. The vinyl backer will not stay formed around irregularities, and will lift the adhesive off the roof.

I think it's virtues are all illusory.

PO of my camper used Eternabond to cover some roof and siding damages.
Maybe he wasn't too good at the job, but the tape let the water intrusion and the camper had quite a bit of dryrot under, while removing very messy tape was job on its own and it left dark spots on white siding.
The only use of it I would consider is to make traction tape on the roof, where you still don't have any problems and you don't see from ground level.
Don't count on the tape to seal the leaks.

I applied tape all the way around the roof edge (pop-up). I cut the 4" wide pieces about 30" long. Starting in the back, I laid it so that each piece was overlapped a couple of inches. I want the seams to be facing towards the back so the wind could not pull it up.

Everything held well except the front edge, which continues to want to lift. I'm going to add another 4" row so I can roll it under the roof edge.

The tape can be a real bear to deal with on a nice straight, flat seam. You will have your work cut out for you in this application. The way that I think I would try it is to lay it down on your roof with close to an inch hanging over the gutter side. Once you have it down, fold the 1" lap down over the gutter trim & screws.

I agree. Especially the part about covering the screws. They won't ever come loose with eternabond over them.
