I would like a back up camera for my truck. Has anyone put an after market back up camera in an older truck? If so what brand and how much did it cost?

I have used the Swift Hitch for a couple of years now...and not only does it work very well....it was much cheaper than a divorce...

I used the Rostra back up cam in the rear view mirror. Does a great job and look like it came with the truck.

I already have the Edge CTS in my truck. I got a license plate camera from Amazon for about $30. Pulled the RCA cable to the cab to connect to the back of the CTS unit, and pick up power from the reverse lights (pulled the driver's taillight and tapped the wire there).

Works great and I hit the trailers on the first try every time!

Wired or Wireless, either way. Wireless will work if you get the transmitter as close as possible to the monitor. Yes, that kind of defeats the purpose of wireless but it is still a little easier than a complete wired system. I added a length to my cable & got the transmitter within 8' feet of the monitor, it works perfect. Another thing I did was connect the power lead to my running lights & turn the lights on when I want to use the camera. It's much easier that way to hitch up, the camera isn't going off & on as it was before when I had it connected to the back-up lights, pulling forward, then reverse, then forward again etc. I also painted the lip of the TT tongue to help. I don't think you have a TT, but this may help others.

I'm an expert in only one field....I believe it's somewhere in Kansas.

I didn't like the wireless one I tried...lost signal often or was snowy.

Went with this from etrailer. Works great. Fun and easy install. Lots of video install help.

I mounted the monitor by the rear view mirror...

Forgot to add - I wired mine in (in my 2007 Ram) so the camera got power from the reverse lamp harness. That way the camera only got power when the truck was in reverse. There was no issue with the TIPM either.

There are several wireless and wired versions available for under $100, some $50. The picture from the wireless ones can be kind of fuzzy though. Wired will give you the best quality.

Check Amazon.com and search "back up camera" there's plenty to choose from.
