best ever fuel mileage 2009 6.4L

2009 F-450 6.4L 4.88 gears.
Empty. Never driven over 70 mph.
45 mph brought it up .2 mpg from its overall average of 9.3 mpg.

Loaded 4.5 mpg. The snowcat weighs 10,000 lbs. Not sure how much the trailer weighs.

I would have thought that it would do better.

Aside from being an engine eating turd, itโ€™s a lease for 11 years?
And the lessee picks up the major repair bills?
I should lease vehicles to the government for a living!

And it loves to drink the cash from your wallet.

The engine has been replace twice with new factory engines at the dealership.

In the last 12 months its had close to $10,000 sunk into it. Some of it was AC work.

Its a lease vehicle so they just keep dumping money into it.

In all reality its a slug.

I towed that same snowcat with a 2007 Chevy 3500 regular cab with the 8.1 gasser.

It climbed the mountain grades just as fast, got 4.5 mpg towing and 12 mpg empty.

I would have to think the V-10 would out perform these 6.4s.

Being a 450 with a tad longer wheel base it handle the cat a lot better than the Chevy did and this one has a limited slip which helps a lot when the going gets bad in the storms.

And with the gearing it doesn't labor as hard from a dead stop as the gasser did.

Can you tell how often it regenโ€™s (DPF clean)?

The 2010 F450 I had would regen as often as every 75 miles. That will kill your fuel mileage for sure, but with 4.88 rear axle itโ€™s never going to be great.

Sorry, but I learned to hate that engine.

They sure do. My fire department's rescue team has one, an F550 sitting at about 18,000, plus towing a 7K trailer. It's got plenty of power, but 5-6 mpg is typical.
