Black water tank light says 2/3 full after draining

2007 Jayco jayflight 29 foot travel trailer. Gone out twice so far and after use I drain the tanks but the light on the black water tank shows 2/3 full and after hearing the sewage water go down the hose it seems empty but the light shows 2/3 full I'm afraid to go out this weekend and get set up to find a nearly full tank.. Anyone have that problem?

Seriously. The forums are family oriented, and many folks with a special needs family member find that word to be very demeaning to their loved one. The idea is to keep the board friendly for everyone.

I've been RVing since 2007, and black tank sensors are useless and can be a waste of calgon, dishwasher soap, ice cubes, and other various tank cleaners; the way to gauge the black tank is to look down into it through the toilet when it is empty; as the toilet is used, count flushes to keep track of how many toilet fills of waste go into the black tank; to make sure that it drains as much as possible when you dump, use A LOT OF WATER!

As we were taught in elementary science, water is the universal solvent; to allow our holding tank to have the greatest capacity after we "dump" is to use lot of water and a deodorant; this is the best way to maintain our black tank. Water, and a deodorant is the only way I do it.

By the way, my black tank is currently empty, the guage says that it's full; it's useless...

I realise most folks can't do this but after dumping at the CG I will fill my black tank 1/2 full and head home, I live on a farm so a tinny bit of yucky stuff in the cow pasture just blends right in, so when I get home I will fill the black tank the rest of the way up and hook up my super long hose and drain it into the gravel filled hole I have just for the times I use the camper after leaving the CG, there is a suprising amount of paper that comes out even after dumping at the campground, I would imagine if a guy could fill the black tank up before dumping at the CG it mite clean it better.

I do the ice trick once a year just for the heck of it.

Here is my solution (see what I did there?). Add 2/3 full of water then add two bags of ice and take the trailer for a drive down a bumpy road. That should clean the paper off of your sensor.

Normal paper is stuck to the sender. Fill the tank to almost overflow that will break if free . Also invest in septic safe TP and no Kleenex in the toilet. The senders that I have had the luck of replacing for friends almost always had the wrong paper clinging to them.

I rarely have trouble with my sensors.
I believe it is because my usage is not "normal"
Most of my trips are at least a week. Often 2-3 weeks. I use a bacterial tank treatment, and it has time to work.
I also use the factory tank flushers.

My TT has had no issues since I`ve owned it. however I installed a black tank flush before I ever used the trailer. Our first TT was used and the tanks always rear wrong. I don't think the previous owner ever tried to clean the tank. So I just dealt with it. I would get a wand and clean it out.

If you're willing to spend a few $ toss a Walex Commando packet into the black tank, let it sit for a day, then flush - you might be surprised to see your tank monitors work. 😉

There are numerous compounds you can add to the tank to improve the situation but I have found these to be short lived.

This is my current tank regime, I experience no tanks issues whatsoever, and surprisingly the tank monitors do seem work. :B

If you have access to the underbelly, go get yourself a set of these really easy to swap out and ive yet to have a false reading. i bought a set for the gray tanks as well.

If you have the money they do make accurate sensing devices. Most folks do not worry about it, so the industry has no reason to change.
