Black Water

I'm sure there's another post on this, but I may not have been looking in the right place.

Left the campground on Sunday and did not empty my Black Water tank; the line was way to long. I parked it last night at my storage site and plan on camping again on Memorial day. Should I be worried about emptying it right away, or can it wait. I just don't want it to smell up the camper while it sits.

It should not bowl you over like that. What are you using in your tank? I used to use the drop ins and had bad odors. I switched to the Geo method and haven't had any issues since. Make sure there are no drop ins in your tank before switching (don't ask me how I learned the importance of that one:S). Always add a few gallons of water to your black tank after dumping, you don't want it to dry out and form the dreaded stone mountain. We have left stuff in our tank for almost a month in NC summer heat without any issues.

You're not supposed to snort the stuff!

What's the deal did you have a leak?
Get the hose tight at the dump station and pull the valve.
What were you smelling? Flush the hose with the (full, even if you have to add fresh water)grey tank.
Heaven forbid you should ever have to use a pit toilet they would need the paramedics LOL

So I dumped and it was AWFUL! The first it hit my nose, I almost puked. Rinsed the tank thoroughly and then left 2/3's full of water with a couple of squirts of Dawn dish soap.

The good thing about not emptying was that all solids broke down really well. Usually after the 2nd rinse I still have toilet paper residue, but this time it came out clear after the first drain.

I say dump it when you can. Letting it sit a few weeks isn't going to hurt it. When you do dump, make sure you do a thorough rinse with LOTS of water. I wouldn't go to a whole bunch of trouble or loose sleep over it. If it's not full, I would use it on my next trip as is and dump on the way out.

Dump now or the end is near and don't worry about it.

How can someone acquire direction from that?

Welcome to rv.net!!!!! :B

It's a durable vented tank made to hold biological waste for as long as needed and is closed to the inside of the RV. Fecal matter when dry is solid. Make your own determination based on that. If you cannot, flip a coin.

The ones that say dump it now..probably never left it go or have am improperly working system

Some folks consider it "elitist " to be squeamish about black tanks and odors as if that makes them superior .
It's the old "my 'stuff' dosent stink crowd-so I can't stoop that low.
No one on here, surely, but some folks are like that 🙂

Yeah...there are many great products available now that will work with your black tank to mitigate any odours etc.... just let it get close to full and dump....
I figure I paid for a full bathroom in my rig and so I'm going to make use of it!...

It's a black tank. It doesn't smell like roses to begin with. you can let it sit for a couple years as long as it didn't dry out and have no issues. If it did dry out, you just fill it with water, let it soak a few days then drive with ice cubes in it when you take it to dump. It's a holding tank or a storage tank, whatever. I bought a used TT that was owned by some snowbirds and sat for 8 months. It came complete with a wonderful filled black tank. I dumped it and went on with life.

The person who mentioned a bit of oil in the toilet to stop evaporation had a good idea. Wile it is true that the flush valve will keep the toilet sealed if it runs dry, the rubber seal can dry out and will need replacement.

We full time in our trailer, and only dump when the tank is full, about once a week.

A properly working system will not stink.
