Blew out a water hose....replacements?

OK I was stupid and forgot to put on the flow restrictor for the water supply at the last campground and as a result, developed a leaky toilet fixture. I"m pretty much positive that the supply hose connection is what is leaking. The female supply hose connector that screws onto the toilet fixture appears to be dripping water at the point where it swivels. So I"m guessing that I'll need to cut it off and replace it.

Question: Is this a standard size fixture that I can find at Lowes or Home Depot or is this some RV-specific size hose fixture that I'm going to need to search out at at RV dealer parts department? The fixture itself is plastic and looks different from the female water supply connectors that one sees used for sinks and toilets in houses. But I'm not sure if it really is different.

I can't actually seem to locate this part on the Camping World web site either. Perhaps I'm not looking in the correct spot?

BTW, the toilet is a Dometic Sealand toilet if that makes any difference.

Isn't it great owning an RV. You get to be a plumber, electrician, HVAC technician, mechanic, carpenter, envelope consultant (waterproofing guy), and much much more.

I'm glad that you solved it for less that a single RV Unit ($100). Everything that needs to be repaired is usually in multiples of RV Units.

Remember: One thing breaks a month, whether you use it or not.

We have a winner. That was actually the problem. I couldn't tell until I put the new fitting on and then tested it with the valve attached to the hose but not on the toilet. Hairline crack on the toilet valve. Sheesh. Well it is a $29 item on Amazon, no big deal.

I did find the sharkbite fitting at my local Ace. The big Home Depot didn't have the correct size. And I learned a lot about PEX so there is that. I do like working on these campers as I learn a lot about them by pulling them apart.

Yeah, found the correct PEX fitting at Home Depot. $2.50 for the plastic fitting. Of course they want $50 for the crimping tool to put the crimped band on. Have half a mind to buy the tool and return it the same afternoon after making the 1 crimp.

That is 1/2" PEX line and uses a crimped band to hold fitting on.

Crimp band has to be cut off......

Easier to cut PEX into (straight clean cut)
Take fitting with cut off PEX on it to ACE, Home Depot, Lowes and get replacement.

You may have to pull the clamp off and see if it's the hose that's split or the fitting that's broken. Either one can be fixed pretty easily. If it's the hose that's split, find some just like it and splice in with a double-barbed union fitting and 2 clamps. If it's the threaded fitting, these are availabe at most RV supply stores.

I went out and looked and I don't think it is the PEX or even braided tubing. I think it is simple plastic tubing. Here is a photo. The leaking fitting is the bottom one that I chewed up with a pliers getting it on and off. Seems to be leaking where the hose enters the larger white nylon fitting

Wouldn't it be more likely to be the flexible braided hose? PEX would be rather rigid to run to a toilet.

If it is braided, I think you will need a surelok clamp (like the factory uses). I'm pretty sure the fitting that attaches to the toilet is a standard "swivel adapter" available everywhere. If it were me, I'd take the opportunity to add a shutoff valve behind the toilet while you are fixing this. A shutoff valve can come in handy sometimes. Swivel adapters come with either a plastic "nut" or brass ones. You want a plastic one which have tabs on it.

If it is indeed PEX, I would suggest using a residential type stainless steel braided hose along with the appropriate fittings if feasible.

I would go to a local dealer and talk to someone in their parts dept. or go talk to an associate at HD to get all the right pieces. Remove your fitting to show them or take a pic.

I would suggest getting a decent Watts regulator rather than using one of those basic inline ones. You can mount one inside or outside.

A leaking toilet reminds me of this video: toilet malfunction... From now on, we are going to shut off our water if we go out for a drive somewhere.

Probably. PEX is a great improvement from earlier supply systems, but the terminations are a bit more complex. Sharkbite has made that better, as no special tools are required.

I'd try a Sharkbite brand from a local big box store. It's the least painful way to do it.

I already tried taking it off checking the gasket and re tightening. No luck. I can't just pull the hose off because it runs through a wall and the hole is too small to fit a fitting through. So I suspect I will just need to cut off the fitting and replace. Just need to know where I need to go to find a replacement.
