Here in Indiana we bid farewell to the Mosquetoes and other bug in October with it first frosts.

We are heading for AZ in March and will be poking our way through OK, NM,and out to CA.

We plan to spend a good deal of time in and around AZ and I was wondering what the bug situition was in March?

I winter here in Tucson area. As for fleas and ticks on the dog, I just continue to use frontline plus, just as I do at home in the midwest. Have not had a problem.

It's worth reading up on Valley Fever in dogs.

I do NOT let my dog run off leash in the river wash, as there are coyotes there. I see them regularly in the daytime.

There's not many bugs because there's not much water.

Depending on where you are staying here, you may need reservations for march, as that is still peak season.

Mosquitoes - not much of a problem. There are fleas and ticks. Not horrible, but they're here. However you treat your dog at home will work just fine.

scorpions are getting started and so are the ANTS (bring your comet to block them) .. not much else other than those items mentioned by Rollnhome.

Where I am we get hawks, road runners, doves, hummingbirds, quails, owls, lizards, seen two scorpions in 8 yrs, see a bee now and then and a few spiders. When I'm smoking ribs or whatever a fly or two may show up. Hear coyotes at times. That's about it here in Sonoran Desert.
Do need to be mindful of snakes, killer bees, scorpions, etc. No really nuisance bugs in desert, but if bitten by the critters we do have they will either kill you or make you very sick. ๐Ÿ™‚

We live in coastal southern Calif -- we eat outside, on our patio, three meals a day, from April 1 to October 31, every year. No screen room, no DEET, no bug spray.

Having said that, there are lots of mosquitoes in the Sierra in the summer.

Bugs? We don't have no stinking bugs! Actually, we have very few mosquitoes during the summer and virtually none now. Get near a feed lot and you may get some flies. Leave your bug spray at home.
