Chevrolet TPMS

I have a 2012 Chevrolet 3500 dually LTZ. It does not have tire pressure monitoring.

My girlfriend has a 2012 Chevrolet 1500 LTZ and it has TPMS.

Why doesn't my truck have it? How about the Ford and Dodge duallys?
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

On my Toyota, I air up to desired pressure, then press one button to set TPMS at that pressure (normally 33).

I am toying with the idea of raising all tires to 40 and then resetting. Then, lower the pressure to my normal 33. This way, with the 25% pressure drop detection, TPMS will come on if any tire drops below 30.

I can chime in that it is a pain in the butt. The TV in my sig has TPMS and it will not let me lower the rear tire pressure to a reasonable level when I am not towing/hauling heavy loads. It needs to have two (or more settings) so that I can air rear tires down to reasonable level. I link TPMS in general, but this is ridiculous. My 2008 Dodge Ram2500 had a button to change the settings from loaded to unloaded. 5 years later you would think we could have been a little smarter but apparently no one can be trusted to make an intelligent decision anymore.

On a car where you're never changing the tire pressure,they're not.

On a truck that you're raising/lowering a tires pressure based on load,they're a PITA.

Depends on the system, but on my TST I set the thresholds. Mine will alarm if I lose 5psi or the temp goes over 150 degrees.


Sorry, was speaking of standard TPMS from truck manufacturer.

The only time the TPMS helped me was due to a nail puncture. I wish they had used more sophisticated software - ie current govt specs are that it activates when 25% of set pressure is gone. I really would prefer software that detects things like a slow leak, or loses 10% from set pressure.


My Tire Safeguard system can be set for whatever parameters you want, both high and low. It will warn you when the low or high setting is met or exceeded. I set mine to warn me when 12% of the normal pressure is gone. It also monitors the temperature of the tire and will warn you when it exceeds the parameter you set.

No TPMS system can take the place of routine monitoring and maintenance but it is a great safety tool, in my opinion.

I bought an aftermarket system from TST for my dually. The system can read up to 22 tires. You can monitor both the truck and the trailer.

To answer your question ...I have no clue.. BUT! what chaps my wacker is when I read thru the posts to hopefully learn something, I have to read thru 1 or 2 & in some cases several that have no clue of what the OP is asking, but will chime in and just bad mouth. Very unproductive and it seems to be getting worse.

I do too, although it is not TPMS, it is different. On the 3500's it ONLY gives you a read out of what the pressure is in each tire.

It is not have preset pressures, it does not send a warning. It sends what the pressure is to the dash.

The cars and lighter pickups have preset pressures, and send warnings.

I have had my VW car send me a message a tire was going down, and it was.

The Reason I dislike them is Never once has it warned me my tire psi was low - but hundreds of times i had to look at the warning it malfunctioned. Thats on many vehicles I have owned
