Chevy Traverse and Rockwood Roo 23ss

We just sold our pop up and bought a nice 2009 Rockwood Roo 23SS. Our Chevy Traverse has a tow package, distribution hitch and a brake control. We were hoping that this may be enough to pull our hybrid on flat ground for local camping, but have not tried it yet. From what I'm reading here, we may need to consider something bigger(Tahoe...).
Any other suggestions, advice? Thanks.

I'm just going by what the sticker on the side of the trailer says. We did put on a distribution kit with 10,000 lb max capacity GVWR trailer weight and a 1,000 lb max capacity hitch weight (if that helps) Maybe we should check with Rockwood? My husband just took it our on the road and it stopped great while braking. Just don't want to take it out on a trip and have problems. Thanks.

The setup is the key. With proper weight distribution, your tow vehicle GVWR can be maintained and it should be great. The main thing is to not exceed the GVWR of the tow vehicle. That should not be a problem with a 4800 lb GVWR trailer.

The Traverse has a longer wheelbase than the Tahoe, and the Traverse actually has a good amount of space behind the third row seat. The Tahoe does not. My brother has a Traverse and just this week he told me that his rental Tahoe feels unstable and has very little useful space behind the third row. I would keep the Traverse.

But, everyone here will preach otherwise and say that it will be unsafe and will tell you that you are too close to the max tow rating of the Traverse. So, if you want to listen to the majority here, plan to buy a 3/4 ton diesel truck with 800 lb ft of torque and a Ranch Hand brush guard.

GVWR of 4808# for a trailer that size? What I looked up must have been off. I'm surprised the GVWR is so low. Ours is only a 20ft and its GVWR is 4750#. If its truly that light then you'll be fine. I'm skeptical about the GVWR you're citing. Are you sure you aren't looking at the dry weight?

The GVRW says 4808#.Is that still too much? We would not have much inside the camper except clothes, etc for 2-3 days.

That's a nice trailer. GVRW on that trailer is over 5800#. The Traverse is only rated for 5200#. I've read good things about towing with the Traverse and it GM cousins, but I think you're in over head on this one.
