Just wondering if anyone has tried and liked the clamp on style bike rack that clamps on to the front of your hitch..

We've had a SportsRack for years. Works fine. If not just on the car, we use a bumper receiver on the camper to mount it (actually, off the back of a Harbor Freight cargo carrier). The bumper receiver is setup so the rack doesn't apply torque to the bumper, only vertical load, which it can well handle.

I just got a rack called "jack it" and it mounts under the tongue lift motor. Uses the three bolts .Holds two bikes solidly and it does not interfere with truck when turning. It's made by Lippert Industries.

I use this hitch but installed a receiver on the front of the truck.
The rack is stable but I only use it for two bikes. I order a 2" insert for the receiver from e-trailer

i tried this hitch and it did not work with my hitch...I had to flip my hitch upside down for height with my coupler and it has a 45 degree piece of metal in the way

I have that exact bike rack.

The advantage of that type rack is it allows you to tow and carry bikes on the hitch at the same time. I use mine when pulling a utility trailer with motorcycles on board. I doubt it would work well with a TT or pop up because of interference from the tongue jack and LPG bottles.

With my rack the clamp bolt broke on the first use. The clamp bolt is simply a weak bolt which is bent. I modified mine that now the quick release clamp is eliminated and you have to install/remove a bolt whenever installing/removing the rack. It is less convenient but much sturdier.

This rack has straps that attach it to the vehicle it is being used on. There are other better options out there that are the same price and more sturdy.

Oh, rb. Last thing I want is my Fiberglas flat bar or aluminum drop bar road bikes hanging on the front bumper.

It would not work with my setup because the gap is to small on a right angle turn.

Likewise, adding the bike rack to the TT back bumper made the wheels to close to the ground as well as out of sight. So, I bought a front hitch with a 2 inch receiver. This puts the bikes up front and higher of the ground. How well it will work on a long trip is yet to be seen.

Dewey and others, I have this bike rack and it works well on my hitch receiver. However, I'm careful when turning and backing up, and you need to watch your fingers when opening and closing it...can cause you to utter some bad language. While I can't open the Tahoe's rear cargo door with it installed (duh), I can if careful open and close the window in that door.

I'm not sure I'd have enough room between my tow vehicle and my camper to safely make that work when turning corners or backing in. Could result in some crunched bikes.

It doesn't look very sturdy. Bikes could move forward and back, IMHO.

That looks interesting. I wonder how it clamps on and how secure it is. for years I've been using one that fits into the receiver.

Here is a tip for you. If you want a cover for your bikes get a BBQ cover from Home Depot. I use the 72" one. Really cheap works well.
