Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012

My daughter was getting a little warm in her bunk during our last camping trip, so I decided to put her a fan in to keep the air flowing.

I had been wanting to add a 12-volt fan to the main living area anyway, so I decided to tackle both jobs today. A trip to Wal-Mart for two fans($8.48 each) and we're halfway there.

She picked the spot, and I got to work -



I picked up the power from her overhead light. All I have left is to install a short piece of wire cover and I'm done -



I added one in the main area -



I dropped by Lowe's and found this cool soap dispenser. I also just installed these Pop-a-Toothbrush holders -



I added a sopa dispenser to the kitchen area as well. I also installed a Pop-a-Napkin under the radio -



Here's an easy mod. I found this over the door towel rack at Walmart and it works great -

DW didn't like factory mattress so we got a memory foam replacement. But we have a murphy bed couch and original foam mattress was two part with a cloth hinge so it could be folded back allowing couch seatback to be opened. Didn't want to cut new foam and go thru trouble of sewing a cover. Folding new one back was like working with a spring, only heavy weights would hold it. Solution was simple. Screw eye on both sides of platform near head. Small rope with snap hook between eyes now holds fully made bed in folded postion and rope stores under mattress.

Also added accumulator tank and swapped all supply lines to faucets to flex lines and installed new kitchen faucet with sprayer.



Also added cool storage hanger in wardrobe for small items and towels.

Added extension cord wired to two different outlets. To power DW's hair dryer or ceramic heater when at parks. Seperate from trailers existing power source. 3" hole saw, measure twice, check for studs and electrical, drill pilot hole to check location, cut once!




One outlet at end of kitchen counter for heater, etc.

One in bathroom for hair dryer and flat iron!

Comes in underneath kitchen sink, built wood surround for cord to roll up in. 45' 14awg wire.

Kinda-sorta mod. Trying to throw away some perfectly good junk I found some low voltage landscape light bulbs. Gee these look like RV bulb base/fitting. Yup and at 4 watts they now offer me a cheap way to save power without the high cost of LEDs. Next trip to HD I'll stockup.

I used household electrical wiring. I'm no electrician so I don't have a professional opinion. Romex has a plastic sheathing on it and the white and black wires inside that sheathing have a plastic coating on them so I think that would be waterproof enough for my installation. The only issue would be at the end where the plug is attached, if it is even an issue.

When you did your 110v Outlet mod, what kind of wire did you use in the trailer? Someone else was saying that Romex should not be used as it isn't waterproof. What is your take on this?

I would sure like to see a photo as I already have the compass points printed but cannot figure out how to attach it to the ceiling....

I really like this one. More good use of my Garmin etrex vista Gps with gps compas. I never heard of antennapoint.com before. Thanks

Forgot the most important and useful mod.
Pointing rooftop mobile RV type antennas is hit and miss. Using antennapoint.com gets the direction but it is not easy to transfer to the antenna rotation. What I did was put a 360 degree/round compass protractor between rotation disk and ceiling. Now all i do is use a small compass to find north-align protractor with north and then rotate antenna to antennapoint findings. I can hit stations dead on every time now in just seconds.
