Cummins Water Pump

Finally. I got a call from my service advisor letting me know they actually have the new style pump and set me up for tomorrow. I haven’t heard anything from FCA though. I absolutely love my truck, but slightly less than thrilled with FCA and how this recall has been handled and drug out. I received my initial recall notice end of September and here it is mid March. I hope to never need them again.

T79/NHTSA 17V-821 Safety Recall is really not a "transmission recall". It's a "Brake Transmission Shift Interlock" (BSTI) Safety Recall.

Forgot to mention before that the new pump has a flush pulley shaft, like the old, but has vent holes in the housing, which the old one didn't.

Mine is the extended shaft model. Chris

The dealership that did mine said early on that they had saw that issue. Now they drive the truck 10 miles and top off the coolant, before giving the vehicle back. Mine the next morning was right between the high and low marks.

Had my pump taken care of the other day, and while I was there, I had them do an oil and filter change, fuel filters, and tire rotation. They were due in about 800 miles anyway, so worth it to only lose the truck for a day. They were done in about 3 hours, so I should've waited for it.

By the way, regarding coolant, my low coolant light came on about a mile away, so as someone mentioned, the tank needed to be topped off. Now just have to wait for the shift lock recall to be taken care of; they said no solution yet for 14-16.

Tommy boy could get this parts supply chain issue straightened out!

But are he and Richard going to drive all over the US in a GTO convertible to correct the problems? :S

I got a letter last week telling me a solution was available. I called my local dealer and they've ordered the parts and will make an appointment with me when it arrives.

The only thing I can add right now is that they were in a GTX convertible. Kind of disappointed in some of you fro not catching this early on. If we are running a Mopar thread then we have to get our cars right!!! :B

Oh, don't worry. You'll hear from them again. I'm on my 4th and 5th recall. Set up for the water pump one and another a week from Monday, so apparently they have the parts. Good thing I love this truck.

I have noticed a coolant odor since I bought the truck new but never noticed a leak either. I checked my pump to see if it matched up to the pictures posted here and seems to be the one that needs to be changed. So,I called the dealer this morning and they have them in; may as well get it done next week.

I didn't inspect my pump prior to having the recall pump installed. However, I do think mine was probably on it's way out. I have 125,000 miles on the truck and had recently began to notice a slight coolant odor around the engine bay after a decent drive. I never saw any leaks, but the odor was present. I did the upper radiator Y-pipe replacement last year and inspected that when I started to smell coolant but didn't see any issues on the Y. So, my best guess was the pump issue.

I'll have to keep a close watch and make sure I don't smell the coolant anymore. If the smell has gone away then I can probably assume the issue was the pump.
