Excursion Climate Control goes black

I had this happen once and no button I pushed would get the display to come back on much less the heat and it was cold outside. I ended up turning truck off then back on and it worked. Anyone knows what causes this?

Thanks

Yea, it's funny I've had two excursions and now an F350 diesel, all have had "quirks" but never an issue with wiring or such. I'm not sure why reliability ratings state that the Fseries have electrical problems. Unless they mean the quirks that come up, like the Over Head display, easily fixed with a soldering iron, the HVAC blacking out because of the Accessory Timer or ????? My one excursion had an electrical issue but it had to do with the aftermarket installed remote start. The guys that put it in tapped onto the 12v constant at the 12v power outlet on the dash. So if you plug in a phone charger, between that and the remote start is pulls too much current and gets very hot, then pops the fuse.
I have never had a ford induced electrical problem on any of my trucks.

Oh you are talking about the overhead display. I was talking about the display on the climate control that is under the radio. I also didn't know about those going out but thanks for the info in case mine acts up later.

Go to the Ford Superduty forums and search for overhead display. It will have a lot of info on fixing the problem. Mine did the same as yours and I fixed it. There are some resistors that the solder comes loose on which causes the problems.

Thanks after I posted it I did a google search for kicks and saw that it was not an uncommon problem. Funny thing I have been around Ex's since 07 and never heard of it until it happened to me. Thanks for the info.

It's a common problem that has to do with a Relay sticking. If you cycle the head light switch on and off a few times the HVAC control will turn back on. Dumb I know. FYI it is caused by the ACC timer relay.
