F150 towing from SC to TX

We have a 2009 Palomino Puma 30fqss that is stored at Myrtle Beach right now but we need to bring it to Texas.

This weekend we are driving our 2015 F150 down to SC to have an Equalizer Distribution hitch put on the trailer (and brake control) before we begin the trek back to Texas.

My question is do you think the f150 will be able to handle the long trip. The towing capacity for the truck is 9100 lbs and the dry weight of our camper is 6700. I know on paper it sounds good but this will be our first time towing and we are very nervous.

It was 36000 for the truck but we had 6000 in Rollover (Last time I ever buy a volvo)

Yeah unfortunately budget circumstances limited us to the f150 only.

We had our trailer stored at a campground in Myrtle Beach when we lived in NC so we never had to worry about a truck.

But my job moved me out to Texas and now we need to get the trailer out here and start using it again.

The truck is an 2015 f150 super cab 5.0 v8, 3.31 axle ratio, 145 in wheel base.

What did you pay? HD trucks don't necessarily cost much more.

Probably not the combination that I would want to tow with for the next five years, but I would hate to trade trucks for a one time pull. Get some actual weights and post the various ratings on your pickup. The 9,100 is advertising fiction.

Go advice from agesilaus about having the towing package option on your truck??

Also you said this is your first time towing? I suggest you get a little practice (especially backing up and making tight turns) before you actually hit the long road home....maybe in a parking lot somewhere near where you are picking up the trailer.

Good luck and relax.

It just has regular tow package installed but not the max one. We will be staying in the flatlands area and will be trying to avoid any mountains (heading south from Atlanta and hugging the coast)

Don't think that the dry weight is what the actual weight will be, it will be closer to 8000 pounds than 7000. Does your F150 have the heavy duty towing package with the transmission cooler? Since you have to add a brake controller it doesn't seem that you do.

Depending on what part of Texas you are going to you should at least be in the flatlands which will help.
