Fall Camping

Fall camping.....love it.

Leaving in about an hour on an overcast, windy and cold September day!

I have 3 nights reserved at Killbear Provincial Park......it was supposed to be a crew bonding weekend....myself and my 8 crew members....the last 2 guys bailed out 6 days ago....legitimate reasons. So they all bought me $60 worth of Stella beer.

I am determined to drink it and smoke my Cuban cigars.

And I'm bringing 3 books....Nobette might make an appearance Sat. night after work but for the most part......rest and BEER.

I have another 3 days booked starting Oct.23.

Premium waterfront site......10C weather prediction.....the leaves will probably all be turned by then.....

But hey...I am recuperating from a broken rib....might as well go camping!

Unfortunately.....my boots sabotaged me......the boot lace on the right boot hooked onto my left boot and down I went.....ripped the boot and I broke #5 rib left side. Minimum 2 weeks off work. Hurts like a sun of a gun.

But....I might try and go camping next week for a couple of days!

So I'm booked again for 3 nights starting this Sunday.

At Killbear...on the water.

Can't wait. Should be quiet....and the leaves are just starting to turn....perfect.

Packed and ready to go.

Just got to entertain 17 people for Canadian Thanksgiving today!!

Have I said how much I like fall camping?

Weather was amazing...but the park was packed due to Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. Many deep fried turkeys in the park!

Fredericksburg, in the Texas Hill Country in October! Made even more fun with another couple joining us in their TT. Weather, food and scenery will be spectacular!

Where did yall stay? Wife and I are thinking of going up to Fredericksburg for our anniversary in November. Leave the kids with the grandparents and have a weekend to ourselves.

3 days in Eastern WA next weekend, weekend after, 3 days in Southern Oregon. Veterans Day weekend, going out, then leaving Black Friday for 3 days. Week between Christmas and New Years is a possibility, one contract shuts down that week, the other runs light, if not needed, we are outta here! Have to come back on the 31st for TSO.

Wa State Parks seems to be keeping more parks open now over the winter. Lowland, coast, and OlyPen have more options now.

We're going to Pine Mountain, Georgia in November for three days to enjoy the cool weather and view the Christmas lights at Callaway Gardens. We are camping at Pine Mountain RV Resort.

The "shoulder" seasons in Ontario are great!

We camp less in the summer now that the kids are grown and enjoy not having to fight the crowds.

Heading out next weekend.

Where are you headed?

I'm going to do Killbear one more time.

I certainly haven't exhausted all of the "great" sites.

Algonquin, Canisbay

Will visit the park a few more time over the winter for camping as well provided it stays South of -30C, after that it's too cold to be outside and a real challenge to keep warm inside 😉

Really like the fall to camp. Summer is touristy and I usually boondock then. Just came back from San Luis Valley this weekend. Will go to New Mexico to watch the birds in November. The Drive through LA Veta Pass was stunning for Fall Foliage Sunday. I just looked in awe at the color. Didn't even bother with the camera.

Fall camping is the best. Here in the mid Atlantic mountains we have beautiful changing of the colors, great time for hikes and crisp evenings by the campfire. October is usually my busiest camping month, but unfortunately this year I can only camp one weekend towards the end of the month...

Hoping that November is temperate enough to have enjoyable camping too. With a 4 year old and almost 2 year old, we can't camp as cold as we used to camp. In a couple more years we will be able to extend the camping season into December again... if we can find open campgrounds!!!

We do about half of our 30-40 nights of camping starting Labor Day weekend. Fall camping is one big reason we moved up to our travel trailer. Just did 5 nights up on Lake Superior in Bayfield, WI, at a great city campground overlooking the Apostle Islands. Heading out this weekend for peak leaf color in north central MN. Then down to Lake Pepin in 2 weeks on the Mississippi for peak color there. I can't wait to retire and camp all fall long before heading to Florida!
