Just about any newer 4x4 will not have a manual transfer case that would allow it to be in neutral position. That being said, there could be a couple of possibilities you can try. 1. I read where Jeep is bringing back it's pickup version. That should be able to tow 4 wheel down. 2, a friend of mine has a 4x4 ford ranger pickup that Ford re-programmed the computer at a cost of $450.00 so he can tow it 4 wheels down behind his motor home. So it could be a possibility that the other manufacturers maybe able to perform the same computer re-program to accomplish your goal..

For mid size pickups independent of this I'd go Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado in that order.
If buying used avoid the Taco as their resale is so good it only makes sense to buy new.
