Ford Ecoboost to 6.2L Economy

Time for a new truck. I'm looking at a F350 4x4 crew long bed with the 6.2l. I got really spoiled to mid 16's mpg cty/hwy mixed on the F150 for my commute. So come on...I can take it. How much of a hit will I take on economy?

True. Theyโ€™re good engines, but thirsty. And you will be underwhelmed with the empty performance compared to the Eco boost. Nothing bad, just a big heavy truck not tuned to be quick.

Towing mileagewith both the 6.2s I had with a similar load as a decent size TT, 8 mpg.
Which is really like 25% better than previous experience with V10s. I could get 6 out of them if I tried. Note: not driving for fuel mileage , driving to get there ASAP.

I missed my custom tuned Ecoboost too when I traded it in for a new stock Cummins. It wasn't until I finally custom tuned my Cummins that I finally enjoyed it as much (if not more) than my tuned Ecoboost.

Spud's numbers are very close to mine towing 7200lb between 60 and 65. Crew cab, short bed 6.2L

You'll be much happier towing that size trailer with a heavy duty truck, gas or diesel. If you can pay the extra up front a diesel truck won't cost you materially more from a total cost of ownership standpoint compared to a gas truck. More up front and a bit more maintenance costs but that's offset by better fuel economy and higher resale. Either way you slice it...it's going to cost you a lot of money. My take was I might as well enjoy superior performance along the way.

Ouch is right. Definitely wanting something more solid for towing. Tired of the wind blowing me all over the road.

And hoping towing economy will be better. I get between 5-8mpg with the ecoboost, 8k dry 35' TT, 65mph. And about 1 out of every 6 miles I put on my truck is towing.

Ouch, but then you will have a better tow vehicle with the 6.2L.
