Freestar or Goodyear Marathon?

I am wondering if we upgraded our Freestar tires that came on our trailer with a set of Marathon's, would we be getting much better quality? Google doesn't come back with much info. on Freestar. But with the Marathon's, there's a whole lot of negative comments out there on them. Both made in Ch*na.... "Ch*na bomb" is a common phrase I come across. :E

It sounds like Maxxis is the way to go these days for quality? I have read about too many blown tires and the horrible consequences. I would prefer to try and prevent this now rather than wait and see if the Freestar tires are okay down the road.

If it was mine, in 15" I'd buy Maxxis. In fact I do!

If you go up a load range as one poster recommended, BE SURE to check rating on RIMS. No safer to blow a rim than a tire IMHO. For example a fully inflated LR-D on a LR-C rim is a THIRTY PERCENT OVERLOAD. Personally I do not think that is safe.

Rim rating usually stamped on rear, or in valley UNDER the tire.

I had GY's on my last TT for 10,000 miles. They were the USA ones. I have a new 5'er that came with GY's. The China ones. I have no issue running them for as long as I can. Not discounting Maxxis but IMO GY's are 2nd best and may well serve the occasional camper fine.

I went from china-bomb Mission tires to Maxxis 6 1/2 yrs ago and no issues whatsoever.

Changing from one china-bomb to another doesn't sound like the prudent thing to do. But, hey, that me, I prefer not to live on the edge and I hate changing tires and making repairs to fix damage done.

Your trailer your choice.

I'm on my second set of Marathons with no problems other than a nail once. I notice a lot of folks flying by me as I hold to 65mph max as that is what ST (special trailer tires) are rated at. Go fast go boom and then ***** about it.

Don't take everything you read on the Interwebs as gospel.

I have had my Marathons now for maybe 6000 miles wil 1 trip to Ontario Canada included. No problems whatsoever. They even hold their pressures decently between my monthly outings and are showing very little wear. I keep them under wheel/tire covers to protect from the UV rays and air them up to their max rated pressure before a trip. That's it. Oh, and mine are made in China.

The newest Marathon should serve you well. I would go up a size or load range if spending money. Get tires that carry the full GVWR.

MAXXIS probably has the best following on this board.

As you get well above 10,000 GVWR most recommend LT tires.

That's a good question. Actually, that is the question. Is there anything much better about the Marathon's that would say get them? Our TT manufacturer lists them as an upgrade option.. But why more for a bomb that perhaps is only going to take a little longer to explode?

Why would you bother to replace one set of China bombs with another set of China bombs?
