Hi Folks,
I want to buy a gas generator to plug our 2003 Coachmen Cascade 25 RKS into when we are on the road and stop for a few hours to rest etc.
We will only be using Air Conditioner and a few lights.
What is smallest Gas Generator that will adequately do the job?
Thanks, Don and Joan.

We used a Champion 3500/4000 to run the A/C at 10,000 ft where we boondock by ourselves. Not bad inside the trailer with the air and TV going but obnoxious anywhere near outside. I can't think of a campground with lots big enough that I'd use it outside of a emergency.

As for the quality, always starts first pull and runs, and runs, and runs.

And you know that how? Read a few dozen reviews instead of relying on prejudice and preconceived opinions. Opinion does not depend on facts. Glad you have one. The fact is, while the Champions are not as quiet as some other brands, they are far from being "junk". Care to quote where any reputable tests agree with your "opinion"? I didn't think so.

Yes, the Honda's Are great. At least we agree on that point. The Yamaha's are great as well. The open frame Champion's are junk. Freedom of opinion.

Well I'm assuming you want something small enough to carry around if you will be using it like that. Unless you have a pick up you can bolt it down in. I would go with the smaller size type like the portable Honda 3000 type. You will not be able to run a 13.5 or 15k A/C unit on a 2000W model. I have a 2200W portable generator for the house. I use it to power the fridge a couple lights and a TV. I tried it on the trailer AC and it maxed it out. Go with a quality 3000W portable style, you'll be glad you did.

Okay, I won't since you do not want to hear the truth. Many people only want/need portable power when they stop for a break and have shore power available in their destination campground. But I won't tell you that.

The OP is wanting a generator for , "when we are on the road and stop for a few hours to rest etc."

While the $2,000 options are nice, my $300 Champion 3500/4000 performs the same function. The folks in the truck stops or Walmart parking lots never know the difference.

Not sure what you mean. No nerve here. Same position, and same recommendation.

(Maybe you enjoyed the arguing on the other thread and want to bring it back?) Not me.

That wasn't directed negatively at you, quite the opposite actually. People in this thread are actually trying to be helpful and not bashing the choice of generators that aren't ultra quiet. ๐Ÿ™‚

But the folks in a non-electric National or State Park campground will be pissed if they have to listen to an obnoxiously loud genny just so the batteries can be charged up. Don't tell me that it'll only be used in some parking lot.

While you are absolutely correct in stating that Walmart and truck stop patrons may not know the difference between open frame and inverter generators the OP's electronic devices will know the difference in the type of power delivered. While I enjoy saving money, I wouldn't enjoy giving any of my electronics the type of power delivered by an open frame generator.

It's like an "oil" thread on a car forum.

Ask about batteries....and stand back. ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ™‚ Hi, for that exact purpose, I bought a Yamaha 2400 because it was the smallest, lightest, single generator that would run my air conditioner.
