Getting started....tow vehicle recommendations....PLEASE!

We are looking at starting the adventure of having a travel trailer!!!! Our plan is to start with the tow vehicle. We are expecting to purchase a TT that is around 23ft. We would like to get a SUV to be our tow vehicle and was wondering if anyone has advice of pros and cons they have encountered. We are looking into the Ford expedition, jeep Cherokee and dodge Durango. We will need to purchase used 2008-2011. Any help would be appreciated!!!

????. My Expedition had a 600lb / 6000lb weight carrying, and a 1000 / 9500lb Weight distributing, receiver capacity, The same as my truck.
However. It did only have a 500lb / 5000lb weight carrying bumper capacity. Again, Same as my truck. BTW.

IMO get the TT you want then make sure your tow vehicle will match. Getting the TV before the TT will limit your choices.

Don't forget that SUVs also have a low receiver rating. Another issue with SUVs is their low RGAWR (the allowed weight on the rear axle).

One of the most important things to look at for a tow vehicle is NOT the towing capacity....don't get misled by it. The "payload" factor is what really determines the size of trailer that it can pull. Most SUVs (with the exception of the 2500 Suburban and the Ford Excursion) will be limited to 1500 lbs or less of payload. Once you add the driver, passengers, equipment, etc, that 1500 lbs is reduced quite rapidly.
To determine the correct size TT, you will need to find out it's GVWR (forget the "dry" weight) and multiply that by at least 12%. That will give you the trailer's approximate tongue weight once it is loaded up and ready for camping.
What ever payload weight you determine the tow vehicle to have(after subtracting all the other weights from it), the trailer's tongue weight can NOT exceed that weight.
Research and do you homework before making a rash decision that you may regret later on.
