Had to replace the TIPM in my 2006 Dodge Ram

Went to use the A/C about a month ago and it was not getting cold at all. The compressor clutch was not engaging. Checked the obvious, ie., broken or loose wires/connectors. Had power at the switch inside the cab. Direct powered the clutch/compressor and system runs fine. Researching on the web led me to believe it could be a circuit fault in the TIPM. Had the system fully scanned and it showed the request for power to the clutch/compressor, no power out of the TIPM circuit.

Bought a Dorman Products Re-manufactured TIPM through Summit Racing. Came preflashed with most current version and my VIN# that I provided. Plug and play. I now have A/C and the new feature where the radio will stay on until you open the door or remove the key.

Grey, that is an awesome idea and a perfect execution.

Thanks, it's a lot easier than going to a dealer for a flash if the need ever arises. GW

To the OP, does your trailer have any electrical issues that caused the TIPM to fail? I don't like connecting anything to my truck that isn't mine. Always conscientious of the TIPM failure possibility. I should just splice in some fuses.

No, I have had no other electrical issues prior to this A/C failure.

If you have a TIPM I would suggest a fuse box between the seven pin and the TIPM!

Prior to the TIPM designation, the same item was called a Forward Control Module. The units are subject to water intrusion under the hood and corrosion starts in the basement if you will of the unit. They have 3 major pieces. The lid, then the array of relays and fuses on a board, and then the most lower slice. That middle piece can be removed from the base piece, and that is where they often fail. We have saved some by cleaning the corrosion and or replacing a connector. never hurts to try.

I can't believe they are still using these things. Bad design IMO.

Thanks for the info and link Ric. Never had an issue except a couple of blown fuses, one of them on the circuit that provides power to my trailer's marker lights. So, I got that going for me, though the truck still has plenty of ways left to nickle/dime me......:M

Question: Was 2006 the first year the TIPM was used on the Ram? I have a 2005 3500 but have read conflicting information on whether what's under the hood on my truck is simply a central power distribution/fuses or if it possesses whatever magical powers the TIPM has.

Unless he has a rarity my son has an '05 and he does not have a TIPM! GW

I also recently replaced the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) in my 06 Mega. I had been having intermittent gremlins in the electrical system for a while and my mechanic determined that the issue was with the TIPM. The TIPM was purchased at a dealership and (in my opinion) pricey. OEM was around $1500 but the remanufactured one from the same dealership was $750. I purchased the remanufactured one and all is well. I was not lucky enough to get additional functions.
I am living proof that you are never too old to do something foolish.

GOod info. At least you got something out of the deal.
What does Dorman get for a TIPM?

Dorman does not sell direct to a DYI. I purchased through Summit Racing. $500 upfront with core charge, tax and shipping. Get $100 back when they receive the core back.
