Hehr sliding window latch replacement?

The latches on the two sliding side windows of my Outfitter Apex no longer latch. These are Hehr windows, and the latch is possibly "HH-1". I've looked at the Hehr site, this forum, and elsewhere, and it seems to say just unscrew and replace. Sounds easy. I've tried to unscrew the screw from the inside, and it just spins, does not back itself out. Is there some trick or tool that allows you to get in behind the screw, in between the front and rear panes of glass, and hold the grommet, or otherwise remove the old latch? Thanks for the help. Is there a way to grab the latch and pull away from the window while loosening the screw? that might cause enough friction to bet teh screw to back out.
