Holes in the Floor

During early and late season camping I have felt some cold air drafts on occasion. What I have found is that everywhere a pipe etc. passes through the floor, the area around it is left open. Is this cheaping out or does it serve a purpose? If I were to fill the holes, would you suggest expanding foam, batt or something else?

Thanks
Brian

I would use Thumb Gum/Duxseal instead of spray foam. Spray foam can be real messy and may be more permanent than you would like. Duxseal is what we plumbers use for sealing all exterior penetrations to keep them weather and rodent-proof.

Yeah, steel wool followed with expanding foam is what I used. Some areas around the electric wires I just caulked, gap wasn,t very big and expanding foam can be messy.

While a small margin between the pipe and floor is allowed for tolerances, anything bigger than a half a penny is cheaping out (poor construction)

Without knowing what kind of coach it is, I'd have to say cheaping out.

Hi,

I use curly kate pot scrubbers (stainless steel version) and then foam. If the rodents come after that they will find they have a sore mouth at the very first nibble.

Probably stuff some steel wool in there too before applying the expanding foam. I have seen rodents develop a taste for that stuff.

Cheaping out......

I'd get some escutcheons (cover plates....plastic/metal) from hardware store.
Cut a slit in them then fill area in floor with expanding foam and put cover around pipe and over hole.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
