I KNOW that I have see a mod that allows one to connect a Honda 2000 to an external tank, but I can't seem to find it in the search tools.

Anyone have a link or the correct search terms. I tried "honda external tank", "honda extended run tank", "honda tank" and probably five other combinations and I can find it.

That's what I'm thinking of when I say Jerry can.

I used a jerry can no problem. I modified the screw on cap with a 1/4" bulkhead fitting. I installed a marine quik connect on the outside of it and 1/4" copper tube siphon on the inside using a 1/4" compression fitting. I also drilled a hole in the side of the can and intalled an air compressor bleeder valve I open when the genny is hooked up.

Excellent, thanks.

Could one use the standard metal Jerry can with a siphon extending down to the bottom of the can?
Yes you can. The only issue is the large opening of the Jerry can allows an exceptional amount of vapor to escape. If you modified the Jerry can cap, you could put a small vent. The boat gas cans (boat fuel tanks) have a very small valve for venting.

I am going from a boat fuel tank to a NATO type gas can. I could simply drop the siphon tubing down the filler neck, but prefer to have a sealed system, with a small vent when needed. I also want the option of using the Honda/NATO can while going down the highway. Without a small vent, gas would probably splash all over the back of the TC.

I ordered caps from Ebay, and the ebay seller also had a package deal of billet machined oil drain extender tube and oil fill cap as a package deal, then everything else came from walmart boat department.

The Youtube video mentioned previously inspired me, but I haven't performed the mod to my cap, yet. I did, however, find a substitute for the Briggs 399517 shutoff. Stens 120-224 is a direct replacement for the Briggs shutoff for about 6 bucks.

OP- everything you need can be bought at Walmart in the boat section, except the Honda cap. Some buy another Honda cap and drill a fitting into the top, but I bought an aluminum cap off eBay all threaded and ready to accept the fuel fitting dejour. It's been solid for over 5 years, and the neighbors haven't complained once.

PS- The Red Cap I have isn't available separately any longer, but THIS is the same thing.

Don't worry, the music will drown it out.

Seriously though, are you familiar with the EU2000? The air conditioner makes more noise.

I dunno. My neighbor's EU2000 was really bellowing when its mate ran out of gas and the A/C compressor kicked in.

I have had the extended tank mod (homemade) for several years. With two exceptions, I have only used it to keep the Honda fuel tank topped off. The way my Honda and boat fuel tank is setup, I run the Honda and boat fuel tank in place. The Honda pulls fuel from the boat tank, always leaving the Honda tank full.

I am going to replace my Boat fuel tank (3-gallon) with a 2-1/2-gallon NATO type fuel can. I have to make an adapter for the NATO can.

I don't think 805gregg was intending to be rude. He/she is just looking out for their fellow campers.

Here is a link to a thread on the Extended duration gas cap from a couple of years ago.

My reply in that thread shows how I modified an existing gas cap and the parts I used.
