Hub temperature

I bought a laser temperature gauge for the trailer. Just took a 4 hour drive to windsor.
All 4 hubs on the trailer were around 110 degrees +/- 5 degrees

What is an acceptable temperature?
Final notice from MasterCard. Good! I'm sick of hearing from them.

Yup....got it right before all the news came out about exploding tires and roll-overs.

The Exploder had a sticky caliper a few weeks back and the temp was up to 136f when we realized there was a problem. (The smell was very evident).

So with that in mind, I can't give you the perfect safe temp, but I woud presume for my SUV it's somewhere UNDER 136f.

When it comes to hub temp you're also looking for some consistency. If three are 110f (+/- a few) and the last one is 130f for no apparent reason, you'll want to look into it.

FYI

I found this out from work and I was not aware of this.

The Infra Red guns will not give you an accurate reading on a shiny surface! Put a piece of black tape on the surface then get a reading.

We have a high pressure vessel with temperature and this was discussed by our pressure and temp engineers at a safety meeting we had.

Hope this info may help someone I would have never known.

I have an IR gun but usually touch each tire and hub by hand at each stop.

They are usually warmer on the sunny side but never too hot to touch.

Just point and shoot center of the hub for me. Do it in approximately the same place for each wheel. I also do the tires.

Nothing fancy.

How do you guys read hub temperature? Do I need to pop the caps off before I start a trip?

TPMS tire air temp alarm at that 157*F

Hub/bearing temps can run much higher w/o issues.

Hi Temp wheel bearing grease (red grease)is rated for up to 300*F continuous use.

You are looking for a hub temp that is out of whack of others.

3 of them at 125* and 1 at 140*........that one needs watching

I have 90*F to 160*F as long as both on same side are close to each other in temps (sunny side to shady side 10*F to 15*F difference)

Also ambient air temps........68*F outside vs 115*F outside.
Look for trends and for 1 that is hotter
