Husky Power Jack

We have a Barker power jack that was installed with the TT in 2011. It started to sound labored on our last few trips in November but still worked. I mentioned it to the dealer when we dropped off the TT for winterization last weekend. We went to pick up the TT 2 days ago and the power jack had officially died. It's covered under our extended warranty ($100 deductible) so I'm also having a few other minor items fixed at the same time under warranty too.

The dealer said they are upgrading our power jack from the Barker to a Husky as it was approved by the extended warranty. I figured since the Barker only last 2 years; hopefully the Husky will last longer. Truthfully, I'm really not THAT familiar with either of them aside from the name only.

I bought this 4500Lb Husky only a year ago. Used it last spring, summer, and fall. Works well. It replaced a hand crank. PHEW! The model with a remote might be cool to level from inside the trailer.

Yes, Mike! That's exactly what it would do. It would sound slow and labored. We kept it covered when it was in storage but not when we were using it. The last trip that we were on it rained A LOT. I'll call the dealer today to see where my old jack is and give Barker a call as well. I know the dealer already has the Husky installed. I wouldn't think they'd discard my old jack though. Heck, when I had to have the front cap repainted and decals installed...they left the paper inside the trailer. Ha ha!

My Barker is about 9 years old and the only problem I've had is from the switch. The switch gets wet and dies a slow death making the jack seem to work slower and slower until it just doesn't work any more. I'd bet that's what happened to yours. Replace the switch and it works like new.

Did you cover the Barker when not in use?
The main reason Barkers fail is from water intrusion. It's design allows for several potential ways for water to get in... In fact Barker was well known a few years ago for giving away covers for free.. Quite a few people on the forum got them. I think they stopped the freebies, but at any rate a Barker really needs to be covered. This also applies to other side mounted motor jacks such as the Ultrafab etc.
I have yet to see a Husky jack.

Most of the Barker jacks have a 2 year warranty. I would give them a call and see if they will take it back and fix it. If so you could either sell it or put it back on the TT and sell the newer one. Their number is 888-367-6978

The Barker jack is more expensive then Husky. Typically this means better quality and Barker has a great rep.

I haven't had any issues with my Barker jack. Try to get the old broken jack back and sell it as is on ebay. I've seen them sell for $50+ broken.

We replaced another brand with the Husky. Been using it for four years now, full time. It works great and we are very happy with it.
Our Rig:
2005 Dodge 3500 - Dually- Cummins
2006 Outback 27 RSDS

We also have with us two rescue dogs. A Chihuahua mix & a Catahoula mix.

I was a little surprised too. I guess if it's going to die then I'd rather it be in the parking lot at the dealer than on a trip. So from a timing perspective that worked out well.

What's even stranger is that the power jack was only 2 years old. It wasn't like we used it all the time because we've only used our camper maybe 15-20 times since 2011 (at the most). I refer to the TT and power jack as "gently used".

Very unusual for a Barker. Ours was going strong after 8 years when we sold our last trailer.
Barker has a great reputation. We have an Atwood now and it has been excellent as well.
