I am beginning the search for a preowned pickup. Can anyone tell me if and how I can determine tow ratings, rear end ratios and things like that from the trucks VIN #?

For GM trucks just Google for RPO codes for the particular truck you're interested in ... for other brands search for option codes. Here's some Ford info that may help.
