Installing Steps...

The instructions on the Torklift glow steps call for through bolting the mounting bracket, however I cannot access the backside. Has anyone mounted these steps by simply using a lag screw and did you have any issues? I'll be screwing into angle iron so I don't think strength will be an issues. I am just concerned that the screws will eventually back out.

Also, the carrier latch seems flimsy. Is there a better method to keeping the steps up while traveling?

Thanks.

It was mounted with lag screws on my BF from the factory - but lag screws through fiberglass and into wood. If you have metal to go into, I would tap it and use machine screws or hex bolts.

Another thing to consider: if this is the typical hook bracket that the top bale of the steps hook onto, you may want to consider a more secure mounting arrangement. In my opinion many of the complaints about scissors steps stem from this mounting scheme, which allow the top of the steps to wobble. I have mounted mine securely at the top on the last two campers, and it makes a big difference on how secure and stable the steps feel.

I didn't consider tapping for machine screws. The installation video actually shows using lag screws so I think I will be alright. Although I question why the installation kit didn't come with all the lag screws needed. I plan on calling torklift to inquire when they are open again.

The steps should come with a long wire that can pull a bolt through the bumper.
