Looking for backup camera for factory ford system

Have a 2015 F350 with backup camera in the tailgate emblem. Handy little feature for hooking up trailers and backing up. Problem is when you pull the tailgate to load the camper the camera gets left at home in the garage. Is there a aftermarket camera option that plugs into the factory camera plug under the bed? Looking to mount it on camper rear bumper or maybe the back door.

Can you see the trailer ball with it there?

I mounted my camera above the rear door at a place where it would not interfere with a rear awning, should I ever choose to install one. I considered mounting it at a height similar to the tailgate camera, but could not find a spot where it would not interfere with the rear door.

Check this previous topic where Brholt discussed mounting the camera to the underside of his rear flip-up step. He has the large Fox Landing step.

Mine just arrived. Where did you mount yours? My main use is hooking up trailers so I need to see the ball. Not sure if it would work for hooking up if I mounted it above door.

We have a winner. Just ordered one. Thanks for the link this is just what I was looking for.

From that site
"New Product! This is a plug and play camera kit that will allow you to replace your factory tailgate camera with this heavy duty commercial camera!

Use this camera for salt spreaders, bed campers, 5th wheel applications, airstream tailgates, and any other application where you are required to remove your factory tailgate. Simply mount the camera on any surface and run the 32' long cable to your factory backup camera connection for a simple and seamless installation. If you need a longer cable select the 64' option from the drop down above."

Pretty sure they have systems for Ford as well.
Cable lengths seem long, but that might make it easy to move between my camper and the trailer.

should add I have that site bookmarked and pulled it up to post. I think someone else on RV.Net posted the original link some time ago, so I thank that person for finding the site.

I followed the plan designed by NRALIFR on my backup camera install. It works great.

I saw rear camera setups in the latest Cabelas truck catalog. Prices are coming down on those kits.

NRALIFR did a great job in his installation. Mine was not near as elegant but is still working for me:

I am thinking about ordering this dash cam with a rear vision camera, one of the first that I have seen with twin cameras.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2-7-HD-1080P-Dual-lens-Car-DVR-Rear-view-Camera-Dash-Cam-Recorder-G-S...

2.7" screen and dual 1080P cameras, storage up to 32 GB on mini SD card.

Another is a rear view camera with 2.5" screen for only about $30.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/-/1970724062.html

I am thinking about getting the rear view camera to help my wife in backing up, but then saw the dual camera dash cam, and think it would be really helpful in the even either of us get in a crash. It would show what was going on from both sides of the car! So we could say that I stopped before hitting you on the freeway, until that bus rear ended me, and pushed me forward another 30 feet! And because you can turn on the rear camera display at any time, it will act as a rear view camera all the time too!

Have fun camping!

Here's a link to an old topic that I posted my hard-wired, camper mounted backup camera solution in. The camera pigtail on the camper plugs into the truck's tailgate connector after removing the tailgate. The image shows up on the nav screen in the dash just like the factory camera.

You'll need to find the correct cable schematic for your model year. The one I posted is only for the 2010 Super Dutys. The wire colors tend to change from one year to the next.

I'm betting Ford has made is so you can't hook up another camera unless you buy it from them. I asked about getting a different one from ford and they told me they only make the one for the tailgate. Call this company and ask maybe they make an accessory to hook the ford monitor up to a different brand camera.

I have used these camera's on our farm equipment for about 8 years now and they hold up real well. They are wired. The company does offer them in wireless but the John Deere mechanics said they have mounted the wireless models they said the picture gets fuzzy with bouncing, and diesel engine noise. So since I couldn't return the wireless model I have stuck with with wired model.

Cabcam; home - http://thecabcam.com/index.html

You can get a kit 7" monitor, 65' cable, color camera with night vision. Hook into cigarette lighter. About $250 from John Deere

This winter I ordered this camera that attaches to license plate. $109
night vision lights too.

With a 3.5" color monitor $110

the 3.5" monitor - Does not have a window mounting suction cup. I went to ebay ordered a window mounting bracket for my garmain GPS. I epoxyed the monitor to the garmin braket.

I want to leave the factory camera in the tailgate as I only use the camper 10% of the time. I have been searching and found a little information but after 2011 they changed the plug and then in 2013 guys were having trouble making it work at all. Mines a 2015 so all bets are off but I guess I will start at the dealer for a tailgate harness and go from there.
