Has any one ever heard of using a bath room scale to measure tongue weight?

Thanks, Dave

I thought about that sherline scale for my front deck toy hauler, but for $5 I just go down to local feed mill a few blocks away and unhitch the unit, drive off the scale leaving just the jack foot on the scale. If something like that is close by I suggest spending a bit of time there.

Or CAT scales as mentioned.

Excellent suggestions on measuring tongue weight with a bath scale.

Don't forget you may also wish to know the TT load on your TV through the WD hitch. I measure the TT load at the CAT scales by noting the change in TV axel weights, with and without the TT connected.

I is always good to know the numbers.

Yep, Iโ€™ve got a 4x4 set up with a ball, 2โ€ dowels and a handle to do just that. Takes just a few minutes to measure.

For anyone not wanting to invest in a purpose designed scale such as the Sherline Tongue Weight Scale the next best solution is the bathroom scale & tongue weight beam solution. Takes a bit of fussing and some math but works quite well.

I like the bathroom scale method, however I did buy a Sherline scale because I have 4 trailers and I felt this need to use the scale because I have it.

My daughters always ask my DW, where's dad ?
"He's outside weighing the tongue weights of the trailers."
"Why does he do that ?"
"His therapist isn't sure." :h

yes, been there, done that. Once you get to 1500lbs or so on the tongue the bathroom scale method becomes problematic. but for 600, 800 lbs, not an issue. Just use your math some pipe and 2x6.

do a search and you will see lots of pictures showing how to calculate tonque weight from scale weight. accurate measuring is the key.
