Michelin Tire Pressure Ratings

I recently contacted Michelin about getting a tire pressure to weight chart because I couldn't find anything on line. In case anyone else has the same tires, here is what Michelin sent me via email.

We understand your concern for this matter, Randy. While we do not have a load chart we can link you to, we can provide you the load inflation information from our internal chart for your tire size. You can find it listed below.

Load inflation information for size: LT265/70R18.

35 PSI = 1,960 lbs.

40 PSI = 2,155 lbs.

45 PSI = 2,340 lbs.

50 PSI = 2,535 lbs.

55 PSI = 2,690 lbs.

60 PSI = 2,860 lbs.

65 PSI = 3,085 lbs.

70 PSI = 3,185 lbs.

75 PSI = 3,345 lbs.

80 PSI = 3,525 lbs.

If we can assist you further, please respond to this email or call us at 866-866-6605 (toll-free) between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST Monday through Saturday. Sunday 8:30am - 4:30pm chat only.

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Michelin.

Sincerely,
Nicholas

See if this works, did it with mobile phone.
If it works it leads to a map on my one drive with submaps for pressure/loadcapacity- lists , given per tire, axle single and axle dual, so you dont have to devide by 2 or 4 anymore.

Most important part in it all is to determine the loads on tire acurately.
Best is to add , if axle weighed, 10% to the load before looking back the pressure.

You should have had 275's not 265's noted above.

Here is the info for LT275/70R18E that RAM uses on SRW truck.

It's the same with ST tires. Every 225/75/15 ST tire is rated for 2830 lbs at 65 psi, regardless if it's a Towmax or GY Endurance.

IMO you mean a ST225/75-15 at 65 psi is a load D tire.

The ST225/75-15 E is a 80 psi tire at 2830 lbs.

LOL, yeah thats what I meant. Apples to apples thing.

I do not like standardized tables, I want specific information for the tires that I have. I don't use the Powerstroke diesel maintenance schedule for my Duramax even though they are both diesel engines and effectively operate in the same way. I am sure that there are people who feel the same as me so I wanted to share this information. If you do not want or need it that is fine also.

As you see on the Toyo list the loadcapacity's are exactly the same within some rounding to 5 lbs different.

This shows that Michelin also used the standard calculation used in America for LT- and trucktires.

If you can handle some math that formula is
(Actual pressure/ AT- Pressure)^ 0.7 x maxload= loadcapacity ( for actuall pressure).

Because these lists are often made for KG and kPA and the rounded off .
Then conversed to PSI and LBS and again rounded, the given loadcapacity's are not exactly what would be calculated.

The ^ 0.7 is the difficult part , but means to the power, like ^2 is square and ^1/2 so ^ 0.5 is root . ^1 is same as using no power so lineair calc.

Strange is that Michelin uses in Europe the ^0.8 wich is used here for every kind of tire for decades, and this officiall formula I got hold of in 2008 and went running with.

This EUR calc leads to lower loadcapacity for the actual pressure.
America stepped over to the EUR calc ( ^ 0.8) as late as 2006, but only for P tires in SL and XL , before USA used ^ 0.5 so root for P tires. This would give for half of At pressure ( your 80 psi) 71% of maxload as loadcapacity. EUR calc gives then 57% of maxload as loadcapacity. Draw your own conclusions.

Now dont have the time ,but will give link of my made formula, wich is even saver.

Go to Tirerack.com. Look up all tires in the size you want. Say LT275/70/18. With the exception of mud tires they're all rated for the same at the same psi regardless of brand.

You may not "LIKE" it but they are ALL the same.

Let's keep to FACTS. Michelin's chart will be EXACTLY the same as lets say Firestone for the same tire size and load range.

Here is the chart on Toyo's web site, a simple Google search.

It was nice you posted the info, it's also nice to find out there are other ways to skin the cat!

If more folks would read this tire engineers blog (rvtiresafety) they would be well informed.

Load/pressure tables are standardized. For any particular size, they're all the same. Except, some P and LT tires may support higher loads/pressures at the top end, similar to a higher load range on ST tires.
