My refrigerator extinguishes while driving, . . .

Hi Folks,
Long time no post. We just get busy. I have sold my business, and have 51 days of work left.
I have a Lance 835, which has a Norcold N402.3 refrigerator. In my driveway, it will run flawlessly on LP. If I take it for a drive, the refrigerator goes out. I think it must he the wind, but I am not sure.
I recall reading about making a wind "baffle" out of aluminum foil that might cure this.
My two main concerns about the "baffle" are:
1. Asphyxiating myself
2. Burning my rig down to the pavement.

Have any forum members tried this? Does it work?
Can you describe what you did? I'd owe you big! In a couple weeks, I am going to Rapid City, then hit Devil's Tower, Custer Battlefield and then do the Bear Tooth Pass. Eventually, I'LL meet my boys in the Big Horns for some trout fishing.
If I can get this fridge to stay lit, It would make things a lot simpler.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Jeff

Check this recent post where I was discussing this with another member. Assuming your fridge is in good working order and it s not a cleaning or maintenance issue causing it, finding what and how the LP flame is being blown out can be a frustrating, time consuming process. The best, most reliable fix is to run the fridge on AC from an inverter while on the road, but it takes a bit of work to get your truck where it can keep the camper battery charged up enough to do that.

Linky

There's a link in that thread to another of my topics showing just what it takes to get good charging voltage/current to the camper battery from the truck alternator.

Putting a shield or baffle on the lower door and the roof vent may fix most of the problem. It fixed mine about 90% of the time. Running from an inverter is the only 100% fix that I can recommend. I don't recommend the 12V mode because that heating element is usually sized so much smaller than the 110V element. Even on its best day, the 12V mode is marginal. I've actually disabled it on my fridge so it won't accidentally go into that mode. I'm out in our camper now, and despite the daytime temps being near 100, the fridge is staying very close to freezing, and the freezer is usually below zero.

I had this problem with a Dometic in my last camper. I put some aluminum tape over the lowest vent slot, only on the front 1/3 as this was closest to the burner. That solved it.

This. Mine was flawless on the last trip and we hit some 50+ mph side drafts. Between that and doing almost 70, mo issues in the 12 day trip.

The Phoenix that we used to have had the same problem. Our solution was to run the fridge on 12 volts while driving and switch to LP when we stopped. Leaving it on 12 volts while stopped ran down the battery.

We had a 91 Lance 980. The owner before us had the same problem and he took a furnace filter and put it in the fridge compartment and it solved the problem. Worked for him and the 10 years that we owned it as well.

Mine use to blow out in a stiff wind while driving down the road. I finally cover the lowest vent and it hasn't blown out since. No problems with CO in the camper.
