Mystery Furnace Issue

I have had an ongoing problem with my furnace, it won't light. I've taken it to the dealer 3 times and it lights there every time.

Just got back from the most recent trip, furnace worked fine first night, turned it off when we went to bed and used a small electric. Next morning I tried to light the furnace and no go. Tested LP pressure by lighting stove (nice flame) then turned on furnace, heard it click and at the same time stove flame dropped to almost nothing. So it seems the furnace is not getting enough gas to light.

The question is, why?

Furnace doesn't light off with stove top burners lit........burner flames drop when furnace tries

Replace the LP regulator......it is not keeping up with demand.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Yes, it is possible.
Do you have a single propane tank without an auto transfer valve or do you have two tanks with auto transfer.
You could switch tanks and see how it operates.
Single tank regulators without transfer switch are fairly in-expensive. Around $15. Auto transfer run around $50

alt is 4000, temp is low 40's. I live in San Diego, so relatively warm all year rouond.

That is a possibility. What was the altitude of your campsite? Temperature? In a prior thread discussing 'gas' problems, the content of LP gas (butane vs. propane). Seems areas where temps are fairly consistent year round on the warm side (such as my state), the blend of LP tilts more toward butane, less propane. Might be worth checking out if things work OK at home/dealer but not at the CG. A regulator problem sounds possible but why are things OK one place and not another? :h

Sounds like regulator problem.

Regulator failure on the tank. It is also possible you have a bad rubber pig tail from tank to regulator. But my guess it is the regulator. Did your dealer pressure test the system?
