We have a 2012 back country 18f which is 22 feet. We now have two kids one is 5 the other is 2 months. We are looking at trading ours in but it seems the only size that will work is 33 feet with bunks. Is this too big ? Should we wait until the kids are older before we trade or will our value deprecate further if we wait ?

A couple of things to think about. There is nothing wrong with keeping a trailer for 10 years or longer. Our last 2 trailers were 10 years old when we replaced them. They were still worth 50% of their original cost. Believe it or not smaller trailers are easier to sell than large ones.

The kids will have fun no matter what you decide. When they are adults they will not remember the size of your trailer(s) they will only remember how much fun they had and how much time mom & dad devoted to them. Bottom line is that only you can decide what is "too big".

We are friends with, and camped with 2 families who raised a lot of kids, one family had 5 kids, the other 3. Both had pop-up campers, as the kids grew older they put them in tents. Our daughter bought her own tent when she was in her teens. We had a 17' hybrid from '03 to '13. The kids from all 3 of our families are all adults now but still avid campers.

That said if you are really looking for something larger, but still within a reasonable length and are open minded consider a hybrid, especially one with a slide out.

Your trailer will continue to depreciate and regardless you'll not get what you want on trade but that's part of the game. I would not worry too much about a trailer in the 30 ft range in regards to campsites. Get a size that works for your needs and go. As your kids get older and if they still want to camp with mom and dad, 22 ft will be "cozy", maybe too much so.

As our girls got older they finally decided that tents were more fun then listening to mom snore. We used a 22 footer for years just fine. Once they went to tents we upgraded to a 30 footer and hated it with a passion. Lost too many nice camp sites to the large trailer. I would say don't do it.

Well this is the thing, I think we would be giving up some of the places we like to go due to the size.

We like to boon dock lots in the usa and Canada.. we are looking at the winibago 27dbhs 33feet with two punchouts. But its also a large chunk of cashola. Tank size is close, we currently have 56 gal it has 50 gal fresh, grey and black are close too..

we could also just make ours work, but as the kids get older the size will decrease.

Depends! Where you camp the most can you fit the bigger trailer?
Do you have enough TV for the bigger trailer?
Does the price for in your budget?
Does the floor plan work for you?
Are the tank capacities sufficiently large for your intended use/needs?
