Need new mattress!!!

The MasterCraft coil spring mattress in my 2012 Jayco Jay Flight is by far the worst mattress I've ever slept on. Way worse than any of the foam beds in my Pop Ups or my Jayco's bunks.

I thought about going to a mattress that we use at home, but at 80" in length, it's just to long. The original's 75" length barely lets you squeeze your legs past to get to the door opening.

Thought about a Full size home mattress, 54" X 75" but it leaves large gaps that could pinch our hands in the night or even get a splinter from the plywood platform underneath.

I want to stay around $200 but no more than $250. Not sure I want another coil spring mattress for the camper as foam rv mattress have proven to be better, if not some what uncomfortable.

MY cheap MasterCraft mattress has no cushion cover on top so you feel every hard coil and they are even popping all over the place.

It's very bouncy. If you roll over, the mattress bounces you left to right, until you settle in the middle. I can't sleep at night on this mattress so I put "2" thick blankets on it, with each being doubled. While I can't feel the coils anymore, it's ultra stiff nature and bounciness are still there. No mattress topper is going to fix this mattress.

I've found a few mattress on Amazon for under $250 and they seem decent, high density foam.

What's everyone's experiences and opinions on the less expensive, more comfortable short queen mattresses????

I'm camping now by myself and think I may be sleeping on the kids bunks for their more comfortable foam mattresses.

Previously the mattress was bad from the purchase. But over the last few years, with very limited sleeping from only a few short trips a year, the mattress seems to have become unbearable. Perhaps my back, shoulders, and hips getting older or the springs just getting harder and more bouncy.

Another topper buyer. $100 for a full size at Costco and it's made a huge difference

I have bought several new trailers and I have never left a dealers lot with the factory mattress in the trailer. I agree they should come without a mattress.

I gutted a new trailer on the dealers lot to their amazement. I took out the mattress, stereo, faucets, smoke detector, fire extinguisher. I figured they could use the parts. I put in upgrades when I got home.

If they would have had led bulbs back then I would have left them the light bulbs as well.

FWIW, we bought a foam mattress from Ikea, unzipped the cover, cut 5" off of it, zipped the cover back up and we're sleeping like kings.

I think the mattress we bought was the $250 option and it might have taken 10mins to cut it to size. There is a more expensive model (it's a tad bit firmer) but the mid grade one was perfect for us.

YMMV,
T.

What a difference! The mattress/topper combo is very comfortable now! It was only $60 @ Wal-Mart.

Thanks everyone for your help :W

What a deal. You pay for a new mattress when you buy a new RV. Then you pay for a good mattress to replace it with. Then you pay to get rid of the old new mattress.

Well after sleeping a week on the 2 doubled up blankets, I actually got some sleep with no ill affects.

So I may just go the cheaper route and buy a thick topper for the mattress as many had suggested. The bounciness of the mattress will still be there, but I did sleep fine with no body aches from the doubled up blankets. Hopefully a thicker mattress topper will smooth out the bounciness as well.

I went to my local mattress store and had one custom cut for my trailer. IIRC it was $400 but it sleeps great.

Check out overstock.com as well. We ordered our foam mattress from them a few months ago and love it. Ours is a short queen.

Mike,

Looking forward to what you choose and how you like it. The bed in our trailer is now more of a bowl and I would like to upgrade for next season.

Good luck,
