New awning damage

My new awning scraped against a metal sign and I can now see a few spots of daylight when the awning is deployed.
What material or liquid could I apply to limit the damage before it becomes a serious problem?

Another vote for the awning tape. In my experience it sticks much better than packing tape.

I did a similar thing to you, but when I hit the sign it bounced in and out for the entire length of my awning as I drove past so I had about 6 cuts at different depths across the length of my awning. I bought the Camco awning tape others have mentioned and used it to tape both sides of the awning fabric (top and bottom) for each of the gashes across my awning. I ended up patching over about 20 total gashes.

The tape has been on the awning for several months and we were able to camp through the rainy northwest winter and it has survived. It's definitely stickier than packing tape--it's more like duct tape, but clear so you can't really see it unless you get close.

Sail tape. I keep a roll of it next to the roll of Gorilla Tape.

A good quality tape is available as noted by other posters. It will save it for a while.

I tried awning tape made by Camco and it did nothing that packing tape couldn't do.

I wonder if that new "As Seen On TV" clear spray would work. A light coating might seal the holes and hold the fabric together.

The reviews for the awning repair tape or sail tape have been good, so that's a tried and true solution.

They make an awning tape that worked pretty good on my old awning before we got rid of the trailer.

Hopefully that damage is a small area. You may be able to patch it with awning repair tape. Like this.

It's available online, at most RV dealers, and places where RV parts are sold. Possibly, even Walmart.
