New TC Rally for Tennessee in 2014

I am very interested in starting a new Truck Camper Rally in Tennessee to start in 2014. I would like to try to have some feedback to see if this would work and how many attendees that would be interested in coming.

I would like to do this in the Gatlinburg area, which is at the northern edge of the Great Smoky Mtns National Park. Lots of things to do in the area and the time of the year has not been finalized yet.

Less than a week to go! Any procrastinators out there that want to jump in at the last minute? It's not too late! We've got a dozen or so TCs coming but there's room for a few more.

Pretty excited to see the AL people coming (along with everyone else of course).
Guntersville is my favorite lake and maybe I can get some tips from the "locals" (more local than me!)

We will be bringing shrimp and cocktail sauce for Friday night. I am not sure about Saturday night yet.

We went up to the Cherohala Skyway area this past weekend. Unfortunately last week's storm took off most of the leaves, so color peeping was not good, but we still had a good camp spot on North River Road, Tellico River area.

Can't wait until the TC gathering.

Actually, taking a week to go from Rome to Gatlinburg sounds just about right. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey, devildog, it isn't far enough from your home to Gatlinburg to require more than one stop. Or do you need that many potty breaks :B Seriously though, sounds like you're going to get to take the scenic route. I was up in the Smokies last weekend and the color was very good up high so should be working its way down. Enjoy!

Just want to remind folks that the "official" TN TC Gathering thread is over on the Rallies, Shows, and Gatherings forum. I keep an eye on this one as well but you can click HERE to see the latest update on the gathering.

We finally got to use our TC somewhere other than our driveway (LOL!) and had a great time. If you are ever in Western NC, I highly recommend camping at Black Forest Family Camping Resort in Cedar Mtn (just above Brevard) near Dupont State Forest. Dupont is worth seeing - great hiking and bike trails and incredible waterfalls. Black Forest is a great campground too. You just can't go in and look around - they highly value their campers' safety and privacy. Anyway, we got to camp the last two weekends in a row there and had wonderful fall weather one weekend and winter the next, so it was a great test of our TC. We are in the "mod" mode now - funny how you see how things can be better constantly. We REALLY want to join you all for the TC Rally, but the annual church BBQ is a huge deal here. We would love to pick all your brains about your TCs and your experiences and sit around the campfire. We know you're going to have a terrific time and we wish you the best weather ever. Take pictures and post them for the rest of us.

I think I enjoy making mods to the camper almost as much as camping ... almost! I'll definitely take a bunch of pix at the gathering and post some. Are you at least going to be able to take the TC over to the church BBQ ... you might need an extra oven or something ๐Ÿ˜„

After the funeral tomorrow, I hope to get a firm answer and make my reservations.

I have what may seem to be a silly/odd favor to ask of the rally attendees.

My best friend's fiance was diagnosed with cancer in February. They wanted to camp etc. so he bought a small toy hauler to use for his bucket list ... which included a fall trip to the Smokies. When it seemed the end was near, he gave her the camper and truck. Things turned bad quickly and they were not able to make the trip. He died this past Saturday.

She knows all the ends and outs of the camper, but he never let her drive. I proposed to her that she and I take a trip to the Smokies in his honor and I will teach her to tow a trailer. I wanted to attend the TC Rally anyway and thought maybe we could combine. My husband will not be able to come.

I just wanted to see if we show up and run into something we can't handle if we could call on any of you seasoned campers to lend a hand. I don't anticipate that happening, but I would feel better knowing we had a friendly safety net. I want to make this trip special for her and just trying to smooth the way. Neither of us are the helpless type and I don't forsee any problems. Can we join the fun without being in a TC??? Anyone attending that could give us advice on what to see in the area?

'preciate it!

Not a silly or odd request at all. Please do bring your friend and come join us, travel trailer and all. Many of us TCers have had or do have another type of RV. My DH has a small travel trailer that he's partial to. I'm sure there'll be an abundance of hands willing to help out as needed.
