New trailer owner & member, help sealing metal roof seam

Hello, I picked a 1977 Fleetwood Wilderness a few months back. I've been learning quite a bit about RV's since I have bought it. Already installed 2 new roof vents to replace the original platic ones that were cracking and leaking.

Need some advice on re-sealing the rear roof seam. I scraped the old caulk and used 6" gutter seam tape, but after our 1st trip to Fort Wilderness last month (it rained all day) we had a leak running down the side wall. right under the rear roof seam. I noticed when I got home the tape didnt hold on the trip there. It started peeling up a bit. Im guessing because the metal at this seem is so flexible and not smooth.

At this point, I have peeled all the silver gutter seem tape off. I have a full tube of Dicor self leveling lap sealant. Would you all recommend that I level & seal the area with this? Its a metal roof BTW...

Just want to make sure I do the right thing so I dont have to do it a 3rd time! ๐Ÿ˜ž

Eternabond Webseal can be formed right over the aluminum trim and screws. Just remember to clean everything real good and roller the tape to release the micro-sealants in the tape. For that aluminum roof edge trim, I'd suggest to use a grinder with a steel wire brush followed with solvent.

Well, just wanted to update everyone. Eternabond was successful in fixing the leak! Took the camper out yesterday and it just so happened to rain the whole time we were out... At least we stayed dry.

I also bought the 4" eterna bond web tape. Will I need to remove the side gutters to apply then re-install with new putty after the web tape and roof paint are installed? Or can the tape go over the drip edge?

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like Eternabond it is. What size are you guys using? Looks like I can get 6" or 4"

Westend...Thanks for the pictures! I think I will do exactly what you did. Eternabond on the seems, and webing on the edges. I assume I can paint over everything once the Eternabond is on.

I will try again with my pictures..

Yup, the white roof paint is another great idea. It definitely lowers the temps inside and should protect the metal.

Eternabond. It's a one time repair.

Make sure you clean the area and apply the Eternabond correctly.

How to post pictures in a text message

I have an aluminum roof and after using three layers of sealants to get leaks stopped, I finally used Eternabond tapes. No more leaks after Eternabond.
