New Truck - But I'm not happy about it....

So it seems that a new truck is in order (warranty out on the current one). While this is a good thing normally - it isn't really for me right now....

My current 2012 is running 19.5 Alcoa rims and tires. A rough ride, but built to haul. I can't transfer the wheels/tires to the new truck (well, I probably could but then I run a whole 'nother risk) because apparently spacers are illegal in PA and the dealer will not inspect it after we transfer them. I could take it elsewhere but then run the risk that another mechanic will realize the spacers are there and refuse to inspect it as well. It's been inspected the last 3 years in PA but a GMC dealer, but not the one we're buying the truck from.

The pros - much nicer ride.

The cons - yucky small stock rims and tires. Risk that others will not want to inspect in the future. My conscious if I transferred them and was knowingly running illegal spacers. The fact that it might sit lower and I have to readjust my whole hitch in less than a week (I'm hauling a week from today - replacement turnover ball being installed Tuesday).

Tell me it's not gonna matter....tell me the improved ride is worth it. Tell me it will haul the same and not 'roll' over the puny 17 inch stock tires.

(stamps feet - I don't want a new truck!!!!)

My warranty will be up on my truck in a couple months. I thought briefly about getting a new truck. Then I said well lets see, my truck is set up perfectly has low miles and does everything I want it to do. If something breaks I will fix it. If nothing breaks fantastic. New trucks are expensive. I have had many new trucks but I am getting closer to retirement and am a little more frugal than I use to be. Now if you just want a new truck more power to you. But it really doesn't make financial sense to me. JMHO

Drop $50k for a new truck to avoid a potential $3k-5k repair.

Makes perfect sense...lol

What's the point of running 19.5 tires and rims if you need to use spacers to do it? You may gain capacity from the tires but spacers usually reduce capacity. They kind of counter each other and you really gain nothing. The stock 17s will probably end up just as good.

Just keep what you got. A lower payment but substantially more debt is NOT a good thing!

We're actually getting into the new truck for a lower payment and no money out, so the hubs stance is new truck. Because we only haul with the one we have, any repairs would likely be big ticket items and it's five year powertrain warranty is up. He's not willing to chance repairs that could be 3-5 grand if they happened and he's not willing to put money out on the extended warranty. I see his thought, but i like my 19.5s.

No ford's here....had one and had terrible luck with it. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I just like my current truck, and i feel confident pulling with tires that more than handle a heavy toy hauler pin weight.

Maybe it's just me but I am confused. You are purchasing a new truck but you don't want to? You are only doing this because your warranty has expired? What is the cost after selling the current truck to get into a new one? Just put that in the bank for future repairs and self warranty.

I'm confused too... Having said that I would simply purchase a new '17 F450 and have a great ride while having those good looking 19.5" rims and a good looking truck, and not having to worry about passing a safety inspection. :B

Congrats on the new truck.... I guess.
