Old school and older school

Had fun camping with my family this weekend....my wife and I in our old school 2004 Jayco Jayflight and my girls and their spouses in my older school 1971 Appleby tent trailer I inherited from my grandfather and dad. Good to see the fourth generation of my family making memories with the little Apple...I hope they can enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger.

Old school to me was drinking to much Old Milwaukee beer and sleeping on the picnic table.

Love the little tent camper in the OP's and love the older camper and car posted later on too. I don't think the car is ugly. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Kinda interesting that your old school is now new school. We saw several little campers that looked just like the Apple, but with modern materials at the Asheville RV show.
Old school to us was backpacking in Pisgah or Nantahala forests and on the App trail. I certainly don’t miss sleeping on the ground anymore.

Old school to me is the canoe, tent and wilderness tripping I did with my daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids for twenty years. They still prefer it to an RV.

But time takes it tolls and priorities change. Now it is about the ability to enjoy the out of doors with minimal setup. Being retired, I have all the time I need to enjoy far more sights.

All things come with a cost however and I will be the first to admit that RVing losses the feel of camping.
Twenty six foot 2010 Dutchmen Lite pulled with a 2011 EcoBoost F-150 4x4.

Just right for Grandpa, Grandma and the dog.

Thanks guys for all of the comments on my post.......I was 11 years old when my grandad bought the little Apple, and we had a lot of good trips in that tent camper. Here it is 47 years later and we are camping in it again. I am amazed that the canvas is still in good condition.....the only thing I had to do was put in a new front zipper. I threw a big cup of water on the canvas roof, and it still shed water...but haven’t tested it with a good rainstorm. That’s for the kids to do.
I am 58 now and the older I get, the more I like older school. The little Apple camps again.

All are tons of fun with the right people and dogs.

Been there did that for many years as an Eagle Scout. Problem with a tent is rain and rocks under the floor.

That car weights as much as a new ford truck, its 4300 lbs, straight eight motor, 320ftlbs of torque, power steering. power brakes, and automatic all factory, only mods that i did was add an extra tranni oil cooler and air lift shocks in the back..

Nice! Old school is cool. Older school is even cooler. If I had the time, I'd buy an old Silver Streak TT to restore. Older school RVs have a special charm that you don't get in today's RVs.

Ah, 1971 - no internet, no cell phones, no hand-held calculators, no PCs, no satellite TV, in fact IIRC no nuthin'... I graduated from high school in '71 - that is def. older school (sigh). 😞 All kids today should be teleported back to '71 to see how we survived! 🙂

1971. Two years after college graduation, in my 2nd year of Navy duty, and I got married in August of 1971.

Long time ago, indeed.

At Whitewater State Park (Indiana) this week end, a fellow pulled in to fill his water, which was right at the edge of our campsite. He had a 2004 Dutchmen Sport Lite LE, that was almost identical to our first travel trailer. Apart from being just dirty and a bit green with moss (quite obvious from sitting), it was in good shape. He just bought it from a friend and this was his first outing with it.

2004 doesn't seem to be "that old" to me, but that was 14 years ago. Wow ... have I aged that much!

Anyway, in 1971 I was in the 10th grade in High School. Now... THAT was a long time ago! It's great to know, that if taken care of with a little love and attention, these RV will last a long time. I am glad your family is still enjoy the old tent camper! That's just fabulous!
