I like the International. Always been a fan of cornbinder trucks, since my farm days. We had an early '50's IH municipal dump truck, converted to a grain truck. It could take a licking and keep on ticking.

I'm guessing around '73-74? My '72 Dodge that I drove in high school had points.
It was standard on high performance motors in 72 and a option for regular motors, in 73 it was standard in all models.

There were others before Chrysler but not mass production vehicles.

I owned a 72 Valiant 225 slant six with electronic ignition, top speed 95mph, 0 to 60 eventually. Slow as molasses but reliable as a anvil.

I had a '69 Bug, and the points BROKE while on a vacation. Found a replacement with help from a passerby. And set the points with a match book cover!

The good old days? ? ? That was - 1971

I still have to set the points in my '74 VW beetle.

I had a high end timing light and dwell meter that took me years to part with long after it was not needed. I did relinquish both to a neighbor who still has a use for them.

Chrysler was the first to have electronic ignition.

The AMC V8 had that too and was likely in that IH. The distributor was smartly in front and it was nice to be able to adjust the dwell so easily.

Being real careful not to get fingers in the way of the fan;)They also gave problems in severe rain storms, water thrown back by the fan created havoc.

Sweet Kevin, those trucks are perfect examples of what well care for vehicles can look like!

As for the points and condenser goes. We used to have fun charging a condenser with the battery charger then setting it on the bench and have the lube boy get it for us! lol

Points were long gone on new cars by the time I started driving, but I did have a few older cars that had points ignition. I never learned how to set them, but I learned how easy it was to put a HEI distributor in them. 😉

Careful with the setting Points and Dwell. :h

Some of the younger members my not know what you are talking about!:S

Those were the days GM, had the window in the side of the distributor cap to make the task easier!!

Brings back some not so fond memories. Some things aren't really from the "good old days"!
