Wife wants a portable ice maker for the trailer and asked if I'd research.....I know the perfect place, HERE. lol

She's tired of the ice demand while camping and I ain't buying a Yeti.

Will they produce enough ice to top off coolers, worth the $100 + ?

Thankyou.

I just throw water bottles straight into the freezer then put them into our cooler when needed. They stay frozen a long time, keep everything cold then we can drink them when they melt a little.

I really enjoy my portable ice maker, it's the small kind they sell at most big box stores (I bought mine at Sam's Club)

Doesn't use much electricity, I use it even when boondocking off grid... nothing better than sipping on an icy drink when it's 90°F outside.

If the water going in is warm, the ice maker struggles for a while. I usually let it run for an hour or two with the basket out, so it recycles the ice right away. After it gets the water cooled down, the ice it makes is hard enough to crunch on but without busting a tooth.

We like ours too. We got it at Walmart for around $100. We make ice, transfer it to gallon size zip lock bags and use it as we need it when gone for an extended period of time, or when we have enough, stick the bags into a cooler. Certainly not as easy as buying a bag of ice from the camp store or elsewhere but they work fine. If we are just going camping for a few days, we don't bother with it and make ice at home ahead of time. We have a bunch of plastic containers and make larger size ice blocks from cool whip containers and other plastic containers we've accumulated over the years and bring one good size ice bag of cubes for drinks.

I asked him to do one thing and he didn't do any of them.

Best camping device ever. We set up ours first thing after the trailer. The water it holds is enough tomake ice all weekend. To avoid the "soft" ice thing we take it out of the maker and put it into the freezer which seems to make it last longer. we bouhghtours at walmart for like 80 dollars.

how much ice do you need? if you have enough camper for an ice maker you likely have enough for a decent fridge/freezer. if you camp with services switch out to a domestic fridge and get your ice maker that way. if you boondock the ice maker wont run unless the genny is going ect. are you trying to restock coolers or just keep drinks cold?

the frozen mugs are great. keep in freexer in the camper poor cold drink in, all stays cold well and doesnt water down.

I really like my IGLOO that I picked up at Home Depot

I have a Yeti clone cooler "read much cheaper" and it keeps it topped off nicely.

We tried one for a few years. Never made enough ice to really put in coolers. Only made enough ice for drinks. Ice also melts quickly. Ice makers only make ice-doesn't keep it cold and prevent it from melting. Was kinda more hassle than it was worth

The ice they make is not very hard and melts quickly.

It works ok for drinks that are already cold. It won’t keep your cooler cold.

There are plenty of “off brand” rotomolded coolers that aren’t as expensive as a Yeti. I’ll also say that I am a big proponent of those coolers. Just got back from a week on a houseboat. Temps never went below 75* and we saw highs close to 110*. The rotomolded coolers do make a significant difference.
