Propane Hose Extension

After a mod to my TT, I found my hi-pressure propane hose from regulator to the appliances to be one foot too short. Would there be issues if I extended the existing hose by one foot by using a short piece of hose from the regulator to the existing hose?

It's the hose from the output side of the regulator to the appliances.

I solved my issue the other day by having a custom hose made locally by Hose Man in Colton Calif. It took him 15 minutes and cost me $30. I had it made to the same specs as the original hose, but with swivel connectors.

Thanks to all, for the info. It has helped me understand about the outboard pressure of the regulator.

I think the OP was talking about the low pressure side of the regulator but mistakenly called it 'high pressure' because of the rating stamped on the hose.

Gas pipe is always black iron, never galvanized. Regulators fail, and should vent but! so the down stream side is over designed,

Propane pressure past the regulator is a little less than .5 PSI. The hose rating is excessive but is usually done for safety reasons. It would be better to do any extensions with iron pipe if possible.

I've always been told to never use galvanized pipe with propane. The propane will erode the galvanizing and it will accumulate on your appliance orifices causing them to clog. Use only black iron pipe. I believe you can use galvanized for NG but not for LPG.

Thanks,the current hose specs is quite high, 350 PSI which to me seems like over-kill. I'll see what my local home improvement stores have.

The pressure after the regulator is only about 1 PSI, so it will not take a very strong hose to hold back the pressure. But it has to be rated for Propane.

Would there be another way to extend the trailer piping, by perhaps installing some 1/2" galvanized pipe (if the hose connects to pipe at the trailer side?) or extending the trailer pipe towards the new tank location?

You should be able to buy some propane flex line at the local hardware store, look for parts at the BBQ section. They sell regulators, and some propane fittings.

Otherwise check with your local propane supplier, and see if they sell hose and fittings.
