Question : Tail gate

2000 Ford F 350 2 wheel drive club cab with 6' 7.5" box .

2001 Lance 815 Lite 8'6" .

Do I load this with the tail gate down or off the truck ? Plus would 2" of styrofoam on the bed be good to give me more side wall room ?

New to me truck and camper . Truck in shop getting serviced to be safe to haul this ( front ball joints , etc ) not got the camper home yet .

Torklft tie downs and fast guns bought but not installed yet .

Thanks
Wayne

Ah no problem ๐Ÿ™‚ I saw the V8 emblem on the front and thought it might be an early '99 powerstroke 7.3 (was going to send you some e99 info) but you have the Triton 5.4 so even less worries. Sorry I've got diesel on the brain.

The 5.4 is going to be great for you and a TC. Enough oomph for the load but not too much displacement to suck down the gas. We oil-heads like to say the PSD 7.3 is the ultimate low maintenance engine but in a Ford the modular gas engines are really the best for low maintenance. A buddy of mine has the V10 and he leads a very simple life when it comes to taking care of the truck.

Keep the fluids and filters changed and all the basic chassis stuff and you'll have a great time!

Just a stupid question though, I thought the 815 was a long bed model?

It's both , long and short . Lance has a option for two pods that go on the rear sides . They have tail lights and small doors to hold more "stuff" . Larry didn't have them , so I call Lance and ordered the last pair ( So Liz said ) that they had . She also said they don't plan on making anymore . EXPENSIVE to buy and ship .

Thanks for the kind words .

Thank you Wayne, you just added another possible future TC to my shopping list. But I guess if I find one it better have the pods already since you got the last ones! ๐Ÿ™‚

Looks very nice and in great shape. I hope I find one as good as that!

I put on a front hitch a few years ago on my 2000 F250 and it was fairly easy, but I had to rig up some aftermarket fogs instead of the stock ones I was planning on. It helps to have someone along when you take the bumper off.

Is that an early 99 PSD?

My Ford is a 1999 F-250 with an Artic Fox camper and there is plenty of clearance.

Torklift has a locking basket or there are base plates for the Honda that will lock it down. If you go with an external generator, make sure it has sufficient capacity to run everything you want - Many of the air conditioning units need something larger than 2KW and you may need more capacity if you plan to use it at home during power outages.

Just waiting on cruise control to get fixed now - seems it wasn't the brake light switch . Front end done and aligned , got to see the truck outside were they aligned it ,:) I have E series tires , I new they were almost new . The mat is 1\4" so just gonna need that 1" pink sheet for bed .

Seems it's taking forever to have it all come together .

Oh ya ordered locks for fastguns and front 2 in reciver hitch for the front . Thinking on hauling honda generator up there .

Might just have to have a few beers to get my mind off it .

Cheers

One problem I encountered with leaving the tailgate on is that the lower rear storage compartments interfere with the tailgate support cables.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

I am excited for you! Nice camper. The Craigslist pictures showed just enough to tell it was in good shape. Happy Camping!

My '98. Lance Squire and '08 F 350 just made it with about a half inch of clearance. I used the 2" pink foam for piece of mind. Congratulations and enjoy.

From those measurements, an inch of dense foam under a thin rubber mat should be enough. Go with 2" if you are worried about cab or bed rail contact.

To my knowledge, they did not change the exterior wall designs between 2001 and 2004 but did change cabinets and bathroom.

From bottom of camper to wings measures 20".
From wing to bottom of cab over measures 26".
From bottom of camper to bottom of cab over measures 46".

Don't think there is a problem at the tail gate opening, but while I was out at the storage yard, figured I would grab some dimensions.

From outside edge to grey tank measures 14 1/4"
From outside edge to knee wall on passenger side measure 19 3/8"
From outside edge to outside edge measure 86 1/2"

"With your Ford, the concern is more about the top of your truck cab and the underside of the cabover." Ok got you , just gonna have to wait on everthing to come together I guess .

Here's the pics wife took when we went to pay for it . The last one is the truck I got . We are going to travel and stealth camp some and see the country . I do have a Toyhauler but it's a pain to back up and don't like how it sleeps much .
