Rear Happijac Rod length

I just picked up my new to me Lance 880. The seller provided me with his Happijacs, and the rear rods are way too long for my setup. Is there a downside to just cutting off about four inches of the rod?
Thanks.

Well I just finished it and it works fine. Had to take about 4" off each.

No hacksaw though. I took the lazy mans way out with a metal blade on my circular saw.

No problem, I just cut 4 last night.
Keep the lock nut on and secure in the vice. 30 hacksaw strokes each.
Good advice to measure twice, I didn't cut enough so I got 60 more strokes of excercise.

The threaded rod? yes cutting is fine, measure thrice.
Not assuming but run a couple of nuts other side of cut to help clean up if no access to wire wheel files etc to chamfer cut end
