Satellite connection

Our trailer is wired like most where the tv connection is up on the wall. This set up keeps one person at the dinette from seeing it. I have been running the cable through the window. I think it would be nice to just have a connection on the trailer for our satellite. The tv would be placed on the dinette table between us. We rarely use the antenna so that wouldn't be an issue. Thoughts? Thanks

On some older 2004 trailers, the coax is not the right one for satellite. You have to use what ever one Dish, etc calls for. Mouser.com comes to mind.

Hi Bruce . I think when the tech suggested the f81's , he was ref. to the automatic sat finding Tailgater system, where the sat signal as well as the 12v power to operate the auto-find motor comes thru the same single line.
The tech swapped them at n/c so I just let him do it.

When I had a non powered dish, I always used the standard connector as you stated without any problems.
I just posted this info in case someone has a problem with quality, it may or may not help.

At the connector you should have no problems with the standard connector. Of course, you can always swap out the connector/coupling with a 3 gig one. Where you run into problems is with splitters. You must have a splitter capable of transferring power for a powered dish or LNB.

FYI
When I installed my SAT tailgater system the tech swapped out my connectors and used the 3GHz (F81's) with the blue center . He told me the standard thru the wall connectors will eventually burn out and compromise the picture.

I used one like this. I don't remember if this is where I bought it or not, but looks identical. And it works for sat just fine. Nothing special about it, just a simple coax connector.

And for the inside, I used one similar to this.

And to connect the two, I used a short quad shielded coax similar to this.

Our trailer had only a single external coax connection for cable and sat. I had to juggle some internal coax depending on which I wanted to use at the time. So I added a new external connection for the sat. Bought an external coax connector with a rubber boot for weather/dust protection when traveling. Drilled a hole in the outside wall near where I wanted the inside connection and mounted the new connector. Added a new coax wall plate inside in same area. Connected the two with a short coax cable. No more wire juggling. Was pretty easy on mine due to the location I wanted.
