slight odor from behind thetford aqua magic style II

Our travel trailer has a Thetford Aqua-Magic Style II toilet. This past week while camping, we noticed a small sewer odor that was coming from behind the toilet. I would run the exhaust fan to clear everything and it would take a while for the odor to return. Everything around the toilet is dry. After dumping and flushing, the odor is gone as expected. Has anyone experienced this? Thetford website didn't have much help. We bought the camper new and this is the third season of camping. Any advice is appreciated.

Chances are the seal between the toilet and floor is bad. They are cheap and easy to replace. I'd start there.

X2 I had the same problem. Replaced the seal and problem solved. Here is a link to the parts on Amazon.

There are often overflow holes near the top of the bowl. They have small traps. Spray water in them at a low flow to ensure there is water in those little traps. That will block the smell if it is coming from there.

My odor was from storing the sewage pipe in the basement compartment where the valves are. There was ever so little air spaces that allowed air from the dumping valve area up into the bathroom. Check to see what is located on the topside of that compartment. If you can see your black tank and any hoses or wires going thru the floor consider moving your dumping equipment to a fully sealed compartment. Good Luck.

As camperforlife pointed out, it is probably the seal between the toilet and the floor. They are very easy to replace.

On that toilet only 2 sources of odor back from black tank....

Does water remain in toilet bowl after flushing. Water needs to stay in bowl to provide vapor barrier....water should not leak out.
If it leaks out.........need to thoroughly clean/scrub seal and ball valve surface

Other place is toilet floor flange gasket......are toilet floor mount bolts tight?

Otherwise....have you removed lower toilet shroud and cleaned. Urine splash/missed...run down behind shroud??
Is it time for your medication or mine?
