Last month I purchased a Ram 1500 and planned on towing a 32 foot tt at 6400 dry weight. The payload was only 1436 and there are 4 of us traveling and etc.... many recommended a bigger truck that towing would be a chore on the truck and I would be very near my limit.
Well, just bought a 2014 2500 HD used with 2230 lbs payload and 11k tow capacity. Dealer paid off loan plus added another 1000. Payment went up $40/mo- but the way I looked at it-I was told to upgrade the tires from P to a LT and that would have been a 700-1000 expense right there. Now we have piece of mind.
Looking forward to first trip. Thanks to those who responded weeks ago to my truck, towing and tt situation.
Only 2230lbs for payload on a gasser? You must've got the Laramie-Lone Star- Outdoorsman-Big Horn trim. Even the upper trimmed 2500 6.4's have way more than that. Is it a 5.7?
Its a 2500 HD Ram-gas. Yea, not even one payment and I was back in trading it in- they gave me money above what I owed and lower the asking price by 2500. Payments only up a few dollars- but piece of mind is worth a lot more.
Wow - how long did you own the Dodge before trading it in?? You said you bought it last month, so I assume only a few weeks? They must have been licking their chops to resell you another one!
Congrats on the new ride. It is a whole lot more enjoyable towing with a vehicle that's up for the job, compared to one that is working at/near/beyond it's limits.
Congratulations on the new truck and you will have such a better setup for towing. And, if you decide to get a different trailer in a few years or so, you will have many more options. Enjoy and safe travels!!
