Tire question (forgive me as I'm not on the TT forum much)

This past weekend, a fellow camper and I got talking about tires the camper he bought as he wants to tow it down to FL this fall. Camper is a Montana TT w/ a GVW of 9900lbs. Tire info from data label says: 225/75R15D to which I assume to be ST225/75R15 load range D. Was at my tire guru shop today to have a used tire installed on the truck and I asked them if one can get LT tires in same size. Smallest LT is LT235/75R15. So my question is: should he go w/ ST tires in same size (which come in load range D & E) or LT w/ load range C only?

I replaced my ST225/75-15 LR-D with Goodyear G26 225/70-15 LR-D (2470 lbs @ 65 psi) this spring and am very pleased with their performance so far. Tows very well with much less side to side rocking. My trailer is rated for 9000 lbs gross but is around 7200 lbs ready to camp. Just needed to adjust my between the wheel chocks for the smaller diameter.

without looking it up, generally no. LR for LR and size for size, LTs have a little less capacity than STs. So since you are looking to downsize vs the STs, it probably won't work. If you upsize the LTs vs what is now installed, then it can work very well. With 9900 GVW, I bet that TT has 6 lug rims. If so, then a jump to 16" rims is the best option. Then there are tons of LT tires available in LRE. The old tires/wheels can be sold to defray the cost. That is what I would do.
