Too Big/Pricey/Soon for Me

2008 Freightliner with 11K Miless

I was doing a search last night when I stumbled across this one. A 1-ton SRW is bigger than my current need, so this is an entirely different animal.

Makes me wonder what they've been doing with it for the last 10+ years.

Chris

You can purchase a used Freightshaker or a Pete or a Sterling or any make for that matter of Class 7 or 8 single axle tractor with a mid range diesel and an automatic or a 10 speed road ranger for a song compared to a new pickup and that SA tractor will out pull, get better fuel mileage and run longer with less upkeep than any new pickup truck today.

Any used truck dealer will have them or access to them and easy to modify for towing use too.

I would expect to pay less than 20K for a nice unit and another 5 to set it up to tow.

I used to bobtail everywhere and air ride makes that tolerable. air ride and a long wheelbase.

Do you really think it'd get better fuel mileage than a pickup, loaded or empty? That's the one place I've been skeptical. These trucks are heavier by a long way than a pickup truck.

Considering the truck is off, that wouldn't surprise me.

Medium duty trucks are cool. I wonder if the day is coming where they can be more pickup-like for our uses. If they offered one with 4wd, more power, and a cab that was more pickup and less semi, I bet they would sell the snot out of them.

I think everything that you don't like about the medium duty the 1 ton dually already has .... 4wd, more power, pickup like cab and less like a semi. I think there are very few RVs that would be nicer to tow with a Freightliner than a new 3500 dually.

Yes, but it lacks the commercial durability, tighter turning radius, gearing and suspension options, heavy duty tires and axles, and air ride to say the least.

There probably aren't ANY RVs that wouldn't be nicer to tow with that Freightliner than a pickup. They're just a hard sell to people who don't want to climb stairs to get inside, do without 4wd, deal with the overall height, etc. The reasons I would not want the Freightliner are 100% related to driving bobtail once I get there and 0% related to going down the road, where there is zero doubt in my mind that this truck would pull my trailer safer and with more peace of mind than ANY pickup truck.

I suspect that pair hasn't seen the road in quite some time.

Considering loaded duallies are $80,000, that truck would be a bargain.
